VST plugins

Hi;

I just started on my first decent quality home recording studio... I have a tascam 144 and I use it with Cubase LE that came with it. When recording vocals I feel that I need some delay and reverb on it. Is there any decent FREE vst plugins that you know I can download for my vocal tracks that can be used with cubase LE???

Hit up www.kvraudio.com and you will find a search page there that will let you search as broad or narrow as you like. They have tons of free and pay for pluggins. Narrow your search to VST only and it should all be usable in Cubase LE.

I found a great freebie VST called VocPro-C. It seems to be all you could ask for for getting a great vocal sound.
Also, the Antress Modern suite is also pretty good (but a CPU hog, so be frugal..). The ModernChannel and ModernExciter are very nice.

Geesh, I'll have to find the CD. It's been a while since the install, and I didn't use it for ages (as I was playing with other stuff).

I'll take a look. Very simple GUI. Good sound.

To the original poster:

Cubase comes with a pretty good selection of VST plugins already built-in. I'm pretty sure that even the LE version of Cubase comes with several VSTs. Normally the installation process for Cubase sets up the shared VST folder where all of your VSTs' .dll files will live.

Check in the manual and find out how to do these steps in Cubase LE:
- Set the path for the folder where your VST effects and VST instruments live
- Make sure that you actually have some .dll files in that directory with names indicative of audio signal processing ("Reverb A", "Steinberg Dynamics"...things like that).
- Grab some of the freebie VSTs that these kind fellas have linked to above.
- Install their .dll files in your configured VST folder
- In Cubase LE, "refresh" your view of your VST path. This should pick up any new additions.
- Now try and load up any of your VSTs on an audio track and see if it works as desired.

The "Lite" versions of Cubase like LE and SE don't have extensive libraries of VST effects included. They only come with a select few. But the ones that are included are of pretty high quality. It's at least going to come with a reverb, a compressor, and it'll probably include a delay, flanger, distortion of some type, multiband compressor. Also don't forget about the built-in parametric EQ on each channel.

Freebie VSTs that you get off the net are a little tough to deal with. There are some really good ones out there, but for each good one there seems to be 100 awful or useless ones.

So do some searching, try out a bunch, and at the end of the day you'll have a pretty broad exposure to the quality range of free VST effects. I've found that reverb and compression are the ones that are hard to do for free. The algorithms necessary to digitally reproduce those effects are both difficult to reproduce and CPU-intensive.

Those "Classic" series ones (ClassicCompressor, ClassicReverb) are awesome. I think that I used them the most when I first started with a PC DAW.

Ooh, ooh, and the Voxengo freebies (they are not all free at Voxengo).
The Reverb is sweet. Also, Voxengo Span is getting a lot of use lately.
