I just bought a multimix 8 usb mixer and a behringer B1 cardioid condenser studio microphone, thinking of recording some voice-overs and cover songs. I tried setting them up and plugging it into my laptop which runs on vista. However, I'm not even sure if I've done it right and I couldn't get any sound on my laptop. I'm a noob in this field, please advise. If I've posted this thread to the wrong section please direct me to the right one. Thanks.

well, I just plug in the mic into the mixer and the mixer into my laptop through usb. Install all of the drivers in the disc given and software which I have no idea what they're for. That's about it I guess. I try not to do anything funny 'cause I'm still new.

Go to your control panel->Sounds-> and see what's selected for primary audio source and for recording.

Sorry, it's me again.
I got my mic working and I love the quality of sound. I've been thinking since this is a 8 channel mixer, I could plug in my bass and do some recording. However, I couldn't get any sound from my bass which I plug into the mixer. Did I do anything wrong? Please advise. Thanks.
Oh and for your information, I'm using adobe audition 3 as my recording software.

I've not used one of these, but I'll throw some ideas out.

where is the bass plugged into the mixer?

Are you seeing signal from the bass at the mixer?

is the gain turned up for that channel for the mixer?

Do you need a new track in AA3 to receive signal?

Did you tell the new track to listen to the bass signal?

Possibly, you'll have to pan mic signal (signal 1) far left, and signal 2 (bass) far right. Then tell AA3 to listen for mic signal on left channel, and listen for bass on right channel. This is assuming the mixer sends only the stereo signal, of whatever's in the mixer.

Ok this is what I've done so far:
I plug my mic into the mic 1 slot

if you need a reference pic.
then I plug my bass into the line in 2 slot.
I got signal for my mic but none what so ever from my bass no matter how much I play or how much I fiddle with the gain and level control on the 2nd channel strip where I plug my bass into.
When I'm using AA3, I could only select microphone usb for my input. And I don't know if it's listening to my bass or not (most probably it isn't 'cause the bar didn't move when I play)
I also tried your advise on panning my mic to the left and my bass to the right to see if it works but I still only manage to get signal form the mic.
Yap, that's about it.

hmm, that's odd. it should be making the meters move on the mains part (of the mixer).

some things to check now:

Is the cable known to be good?

Is the channel 2 told to send to the mains? There may be a button, to press in that sends signal to the mains.

Is ch2 not working? try the bass in channel 3 or 4.

Also, you can try the bass into channel 1 to see it something changes.

Technically, the bass will put out instrument level signal, which is below line level signal. So actually, you probably won't see much. But, I've plugged my bass into my mixer and recorded that way without problem. Just bringing the gain up for that channel was all I need.

Try those, and see if that fixes anything.

Which bar do you mean? on the mixer, or in software?

Might be the 2TRK to Mix/2TRK to Cntrl Rm buttons are incorrectly pressed for your set up. Also, check the trim pot (black one) just under the input on the channel. Simple mistake I have made too many times.
