Hello again,

I just had one quick question. I recently bought the M-audio PM. I am currently using it with Sonar. Would I need any additional equipment to run this with Pro Tools? I would really like to start using PT since it seems to be the industry standard and thats all anyone talks about. I know there are control surfaces out there specifically for PT.

Will this one work as well?

Thanks

Anthony

What does everyone think of the Digidesign M-powered Protools software versus Sonar 7 or 8 PE. I keep hearing how good PT is but the price of the software is so much lower than Sonar.

Anyone have any opinions or reccomendations?

IF you have several thousand dollars when time comes to upgrade the PT is the ticket.

Honestly I cannot believe the number of people that get sucked into the PT money pit and think it is the be all end all.

Sadly it is not.

If you want to compare Sonar PE to what you will get with a PT M powered set up, then there is not really anything to compare. The number and quality of plugins that come with Sonar are huge, with PT, not much at all. Just the basic stuff. No huge extra goodies that are deal breakers.

To be honest I work in and out of a few other studios that use PT and PT M powered set ups. I have no problems getting my projects in or out of their systems. And I use Sonar 8 PE. I've always used Sonar here. Tried all the others but always come back to Sonar.

For the dollar investment you will not get your moneys worth out of PT ever. But you will dump a lot more cahs into it to get the plugins and stuff you need.

In fact, it wont even export an mp3 without spending about $100 dollars to enable a plugin for it.

Thanks Noize,

You just saved me a ton of cash. Right now i use SOnar 6. Is there a way to upgrade to 8 or do i have to just go out and purchase Sonar 8 in full again. Is there much of a difference between the two?

One other thing, what bit are are you recording in? I think im in 24 right now, is there anything special i need to move up to 32 bit other than a huge hard drive? I also saw the box in the audio settings for 64 bit, i wasnt really sure what this was for.

im just trying to figure out the best way to run my gear and how to get the best quality.

Ya, go to their site and give a read on the stuff it comes with for the PRoducer Edition.

But yes, you canget an upgrade price from 6 to 8 without paying full retail for it. Its a little more then upgrading from 7 but not a whole lot.

There should be an upgrade link there as well.

If you have trouble finding it let me know and I'll get ya a link to the proper info.
