chaining pedals into a Line6 Toneport

Hi, I use a Line6 Toneport UX1 with the Gearbox software for recording guitar, bass and vocals into Cubase SX.
I have recently bought a number of pedals that I want to use in the recordings with the setup I described above.

I know certain pedals need to be in the FX loop and others should be in the direct chain between guitar and amp input to get the best performance and avoid "tone sapping".

As the UX1 doesn't have an FX loop (as far as I know) you can only chain things directly between ur guitar and the UX1s input. Will this sap the tone from the pedals that need to be in an FX loop in the same way as would happen in an amp.

Obviously I'm gna try it n see what happens but it'd be handy if anyone has any experience of this as the pedals I've bought are new to me and so I don't know how they should sound anyway.

cheers

I don't think that it will have a huge effect on the tone if you just run your pedals direct in front of the UX1.

It's mainly the time-based effects that are usually put in the effects loop. Personally, I find that time-based effects work just as well between the guitar and the amp's input, as long as they're last in the chain.

In the long run, it may end up being easier to just use the Line6 software for all of your effects since you have the control of where in your virtual signal chain they go. Also since they are VSTs, you can record a dry track and play around with effects all you want. If you record the track through your outboard pedals, you're stuck with the results and will have to re-record in order to change any settings from your pedals.

Yep, I rarely if ever use any pedals anymore. I have the POD xt fully loaded and a UX-2 as well and they have more then enough good emulations of some great pedals. I run a full floor board for the xt and it does everything I would want including the wah.
