Piano pickups

So, I had this really great idea about using a pickup similar to that in a guitar for the piano. Then I went online and saw that they were thousands of dollars. So I got to thinking, it isn't really all that hard to make a piezo pickup like the ones in acoustic/electric guitars. Does anybody have any idea if a piezo pickup would sound alright in a piano?

There is the BARCUS BERRY 4000-XL which sells for around $300 US. I don't much care for them unless it is used in combo with a good mic set up, but they work pretty well. You can buy the crystal for around the $100 mark as well.

These guys make what I consider one of the best piano pickups around. www.helpinstill.com/users.html

While they do have a model over the $1000 mark they also have some around the $500 range as well.

I've used Piezo's on piano before. But to do it right you are not going to get the job done with a single piezo.
