MIDI HELP PLEASE

OK...I finally decided to try and figure this MIDI Thing out and I am getting nowhere. Can anyone give me any tips or even better, some step by step instructions. I have an M-audio projectmix, Sonar 6 PE, and an m-audio axiom 61. I can seem to get any sound at all. I am very confused on how to set everything up when it comes to the inputs and outputs. My projectmix is my interface, but when I look at the input and output options for each track it say projectmix control surface, projectmix, external midi, and axiom 61. Im totally confused. each manual shows you how to use the unit but nothing shows you how to set up one unit to work with another.

i have all the software and drivers installed and everything hooked up properly. My comuter recognizes everything fine.

Please Help

Thanks

Are you using the Synth Rack view to set up the synthes? If not you should as that sets up the tracks as they should be used.

OK...I'm getting sound now. (using the synth rack helped out) My next issue is that only three of the keys on my axiom 61 are working. How do i assign keys or pads to specific sounds. also, when i arm the track and try to record midi, nothing is being recorded.

All the keys should work, if one works all should.

What synth exactly are you trying to play? This might help solve some of the mystery.

Is the Axiom new or used by the way, and are you using a power supply with it or powering it via USB?

I tried all the synths listed in sonar and all only had three keys that gave off sound...I am using a brand new axiom 61. powering through usb. it did not come with a power supply. the three keys are all next to each other. I tried to open up NI battery but only one of the pads worked. but a new pad would work for every sound i opened in battery.

I guess i just need to figure out how to assign a specific key to a specific sound. the three keys working i just dont understand though

I am wondering if the Axiom is not getting enough juice from the USB port. Are you using a HUB by chance? That can cause issues like this as well.

The keys should all be functional from the get go, and there should be no need to set them up for a standard software synth as they all use the keys.

I am wondering if the Axiom some how got set to a different mode other then a full keyboard mode.

OK, a couple of things.

Are you running the Project Mix i/o in ASIO driver mode? If not you should be as that will lower the latency.

But the big thing is that you may need the power supply instead of running it off the USB only. It is that lack of power that may be causing the issue for sure.

If your latency buffer is set to 128 and your running ASIO drivers then that is it for sure.

But you still have not stated whether you are running the USB cable from a USB hub or not either. That might be the problem also if that is the case.

im not sure what a hub is. I am running the usb direct from the axiom to the back of my pc.
how do i set the projectmix to asio mode? is that a setting in sonar?

When you say latency buffer at 128, is that the sonar setting?

I answered the latency thing in the other thread.

Well first deal with the drivers and such for the project mix and see if that can clear some of it up for the delay.

But I would definitely add the power supply as I'm certain that is at the root of the key board problem.
