Funny thing happened this evening. After updating the Flash player for Windows to the latest version, the Wimpy player isn't working properly anymore. The player window opens and stays black forever.
I visited HRC an hour ago and had no problems at all. Then I did the update with the above result.
Thought I let you know.
Vista Home Premium SP1, fully patched
IE7 fully patched
Flash player WIN 10,0,12,36

Oct 23, 2008 10:00 pm Good to know that I saved a kitten! :-)
Now let's hope that dB will find the time to look into this Wimpy thing. I miss listening to the member's music.
dB, I know that there were some issues with the beta version of Flash player 10 and Wimpy, so maybe what I'm experiencing is related to those problems?
Oct 24, 2008 06:23 pm Haha... I love that picture.
Oct 24, 2008 06:31 pm OK here is my input:
1- that picture is awesome, I am hanging it in my office at work.
2- I have Vista on a slaptop, I'll look into that this weekend, but I haven't had any issues myself on XP fully updated...
3- Stop using IE

Every time you use IE, god kills two kittens.

Oct 24, 2008 08:32 pm The kittens thing is killer though for sure. I love it. I'm setting it up as desktops on some remote PC's and here as well. I think I'm going to forward it to our IT head as well. He'll get a big kick out of it.

Oct 24, 2008 10:50 pm Thanx in advance for looking into it, dB. You're the best. ;-)
Concerning IE, I don't want a system anymore with a multitude of browsers like in my former situation. I like to keep it simple this time; IE is the only browser that supports all the add-ons that I need every day.
The slap on the forehead isn't necessary imho. Mine is a well protected comp, even DEP is running for all programs. :-)

Oct 24, 2008 11:19 pm Nightcap, not being a smart alec here either.
Have you browsed through all the add-ons for Firefox lately? I know there is a large library of add-ons that I have picked from for what I use. I've even aced IE at work in favor of Firefox now. although I do need to keep IE on one box, I rarely ever use it.
In fact the new Dell I just scrounged for home here to replace my antique surfbox is not getting IE at all.
Oct 24, 2008 11:25 pm Firefox rocks for sure, but I have to use IE when I want to email a URL via Yahoo. For some BS reason, when I use Mozilla it won't make the link clickable.

Oct 24, 2008 11:32 pm Quit using Yahoo and start using Gmail. I'll send ya an invite if you need one.
I trashed my Yahoo mail years ago after a bit of a identity theft fiasco that was their fault. I don't trust Yahoo no more, no how, no way.
Oh ya, I don't have any issues with links in Firefox using gmail.
Ok, maybe its time for bed now.

Oct 25, 2008 02:21 am OK, here's what I did to solve my problem for now. I downloaded a patched version of Google Chrome that can be extracted in any folder on any drive, including USB sticks. (So you can carry it around) That way I don't have to go through a real install and I can get rid of Chrome whenever I want to by just deleting the folder.
Of course before typing this post I tried the Wimpy player and Chrome performed this task flawlessly... :-)
dB, maybe God will have second thoughts now and not kill 2 kittens? :-D
Noize, as always your advice is never considered to be condescending or the likes. You are right that I've not looked into FF's add-ons in a long time.
Well, Chrome seems to work well with HRC and that's what I was looking for.
Still, on behalf of other members who may run into problems with the Wimpy player, it would be a good thing to check if anything can be improved for IE7.

Oct 25, 2008 02:27 pm Thanx for your input Izzy. Good to know that it's not just an IE issue.

Oct 25, 2008 09:40 pm I am guessing it is a Flash issue then for sure.
Nightcap, that is how I was running Chrome on my other box. It seemed to work well enough. I'm just waiting to see if they can make it as slick as FF and end up with the same types of 3rd party plug's that FF has.
Oct 25, 2008 09:51 pm A few new versions have come out, I will be upgrading in coming days...

Oct 25, 2008 10:22 pm @Noize, yep that patched Chrome version is less intrusive on a system. Although Chrome has potential, I don't think they are there yet. Minimalist I kinda like, bare minimals not so much. :-) Like I said, it's a good solution for now.
@dB, thanks again on behalf of the kittens!

Oct 26, 2008 03:30 pm Nightcap, I only found one reg entry when running it from a folder. There may have been another but I could not find it.
So ya, I'll agree on the less intrusive part for sure.
I've been using it on a lappy at work that way because of its speed compared to IE.

Oct 26, 2008 10:29 pm Noize, there are a few more entries in the registry, but those are the ones that are absolutely necessary. Like setting up Chrome to recognize the html format. Nothing to worry about. Yes, overall Chrome's performance is really good. I will definitely keep an eye on where Chrome is heading.
