Who here makes films?

I know zekthedeadcow does, just curious if anybody else does...

Reason being I am working on a book/story that may make into a decent thriller of a sort...if anybody is interested, needing a project for any local indie film festivals/shows type of things...

It's a little ways out from being done, but the last week or two I have been pretty inspired and got to work pretty hard.

Is Herb still in there? If so, I have an idea for casting:

John Turturro.

haha.

Herb hasn't made it yet, I just finished introducing main characters, setting and general mood...now piecing together the story board of key events and such things so I can start filling in the bits and pieces between events and tie all those pieces together in some sort of cohesive fashion.

It's actually kind of fun...and will be fairly easy to push just a little bit to turn it into a decent thriller/suspense type thing.

I've never done it before but it's something I've been looking to get into if that counts for anything.

It does count...and like I said, it'll be a while before it's ready to roll...so there is time.

Honestly, it's something I'd like to get into as well, it's just outside my skills I think...I wanna do the sound track tho.

Oh, and I did accept your linkedin request, but the web site was acting REALLY weird, I hope it came through on your end...

aye, i grew up making films and i got into film school once. filmmaking is all my gang did for about five years back in college. now i consult with peeps on their books/stories instead.

it sounds weird, but i didn't see a need for film school. you develop your own style by doing it.

That's kind of my opinion of any school beyond high school.

Well, unless you wanna be a doctor, dentist or such...I don't think with those trades you should learn on the job...but music recording, film making graphic design and all that is subject to personal style and technique...

i dunno. i've tried my hand at surgery. surprisingly, it too is easy once you get the hang of it. i took out some dude's spleen last week. i had a good style, which he applauded.

gave myself a quasi-root canal once...yanked a tooth once...

The movie...ummmm, a fiction thriller about a weird, dangerous person in a community.

All characters and events are fictional, any similarities between the characters and/or events of any person, or their lives, living or dead is strictly coincidental.

Ha, way cool. I've been looking for something to start filming on, but I don't think I'm that ambitious.

I was thinking little 2 ~ 5 minute shorts, or similar.

Curious as to how much content, or running length ideas. Or, is there a chance to see the script, or your copy ideas.

Not that I'm saying I've got time to do a real project, but i'm curious, none-the-less.

At this point the ideas reside more in book format, and it's incomplete. If I have somebody interested in making a film of it I'd gladly make a script (not that I really have experience in that area).

I'd suspect it could easily hit the 60 minute mark but I don't know at this point.

I could carry it on for ages, but in condensed film time 30-60 minutes likely.

Sounds like there's some room for interpretation and such.

Tasteful nudity, or course =).

hmmm, you've got me thinking.

Never having done this type of thing before, i will have to try a few test runs to see if I can actually do this type of thing.

I'll take a look at what you have so far, if you don't have any other takers.

Yeah, maybe I'll drop you something next week, the next few days I am going to be doing some basic framework for the real story, beyond just setting and character introductions...

Interpretation is all up to the director...but there will be a distinct atmosphere that will need to come across...

I as well am curious to see were this is going.

A movie, now that would be interesting.

Are we talking WIDE screen?

OK, that was uncalled for, but I had to.

I'd like to take a look when you get done, doubt I have time for another project in the next year but I might know a couple other people who do horror/thrillers...

...and generally speaking, each page of formatted script is about 1 minute of movie.

oh, really? interesting, that is good to know...thanks for the general info zek.

man, maybe I should start with a script before a book...the prospect of it being a film is kinda cool... :-)

forty, you do book critiquing and whatnot don't ya?

yes. i do line-editing on books and/or story work. characters, dialogue, structure, etc.

you should maybe write it as a script instead--it's way easier and more fun. it's really easy to juggle things around and it forces you to see the story as a series of images, as scenes and units. if you can, get a copy of final draft software and just kind of play around.
