I'm having trouble getting a good reverb on my vocal and snare drum tracks. Whenever I add reverb it just reduces the punch and pushes the track back into the mix. What settings should I use to get more of a slapback kind of sound that doesn't push the vocals back further?

Mar 10, 2003 03:50 pm Have you tried using delay instead?
I find my Vocals sit much better when I use delay and a small amount of reverb.
Try using a short decay time, this helps to keep it upfront.
'DSPFX Virtual pack' is a great reverb/delay plugin with total control and can be used as a stand alone, it's all I use for reverb.

Mar 10, 2003 08:41 pm Have you tried a Chamber Reverb with a small-ish decay time (1.5ish seconds is good).
Failing that, as Murphy said, a Multitap delay can sound just as good - especially if the taps are panned - it will really thicken up the vocals. Just keep the taps close together 35ms ish is good

Mar 11, 2003 11:14 pm Good choice jues. The chamber when used with a short decay, and applied sparingly will help give the vocal life and keep it present and in front in the mix.
Mar 12, 2003 02:33 pm Thanks, but what exactly is a "chamber" reverb?

Mar 12, 2003 08:47 pm It's a type of reverb program / algorythm.
Which Reverb unit / plugin are you using so thatI can help you configure one :)
jues.
Mar 13, 2003 08:46 pm I'm using the cakewalk Reverb and cakewalk FXreverb that comes with Sonar for the most part.

Mar 13, 2003 09:08 pm Check in the FXreverbs presets. I believe there is a chamber type reverb in there. I will hae a look a bit later as I use Sonar 2.2 XL.
