im looking at upgrading my interface as well as getting an octopre le. the first interface im looking at getting is a presonus firestudio project. will this connect with the octopre? if so how? here's a list of other interfaces im also looking at. please let me know what you know about the quality of them and if they would work with the octopre.
- Focusrite Saffire Pro 10 i/o
- MOTU 8pre
I'm using digital performer 5 with OS X

I would go for the Motu or Focusrite personally.

The FS Project won't connect to the octopre. It's just an 8 channel interface and isn't expandable. A regular Firestudio would connect via Lightpipe but not the project.

Honestly, I'd go with a Digimax FS. It's a little more versatile and I know it personally sounds great.

MOTU 8 pre gets my vote as well.

Stable good hardware and their drivers are up to date and run stable as well.

the 8pre is looking like my best option except that it only has one out which is a downside. i'd like to have both my monitors and headphone amp going at the same time.......

Does your headphone amp have a monitor output or a pass through?

If you have the Optical I/O card in your OctoPre, you can connect it to a Digimax which has 8 analog I/O (unlike any of the others mentioned here). So, you could go as far as get 4 small headphone amps and even get 4 different mixes(expandable to 8) or just send one signal out to your current headphone amp and get 4 of the same mix.

I don't know about you, but I'd LOVE to have my own mix in my headphones. Haha.

The DigiMaxFS also has one insert per channel and direct through outs(for lack of a better term) so you could even send those channels to an external source if you needed. And I've found it to be a better price than the 8Pre. And sounds just as good.

No, I don't work for Presonus. I just love em'. :)

I have one of those, it's very nice.

4 different headphone amps in one, meaning you can have main stereo input, which goes to each amp. Then, in each amp you can have it's own aux input (more me). Each of these amps have 3 outputs.

Plus, it has main inputs, plus an aux stereo input, so you could have main mix, plus added mix going to all HP amps.

If you have the outputs (i have 8) then it works out quite well.

if i just had a digimax and an octopre i would need to connect to my comp via firewire. im not sure what your implying.

well, the octopre has 8 analog outputs wouldn't that work the same as the digimax as far as monitoring?

so i could have my monitors coming from the 8pre and headphones from the octpre or digimax (whatever one i decide on)?

Err... I misread your first post all together.

The OctoPre does have analog outs like Presonus stuff does. If you can get a FireStudio, FireStudio project, or an OctoPre LE, you can get totally different mixes for each sets of headphones. The 8Pre from Motu is great! Just doesn't have analog outs except the main outs.

And they all (I think) connect to your PC through FireWire. That's how you can route things for different mixes.

Yeap. I run FireStudio and a DigiMaxFS. No problems! Haha.
