lets get this "bass drop" thing right...

ok ive looked through a bunch of different sites. ive seen people use the exact phrase, "bass drop" in terms of a segment in a song where there is a HUGE boom only heard with subwoofers. now, the only reason i can understand why people call it a bass drop is because, without subs, it really does cut out the low end in the entire mix for that moment. at the same time, it does feel like somebody just dropped a bassy bomb in your car, if u have subs, when that effect is played.

i want to know if somebody can find samples of bass drops for me. 90% of the time, they are made from a roland 808 kick effect that is warped into a longer kick drum sound. but others do make their own out of messing with different instruments and finding what they feel is right.

examples:

job for a cowboy- entombment of a machine
as i lay dying- confined
bravo armada- worst mistake

many metal bands use this... im going for the kind you hear in job for a cowboy's songs. they have, probably, the most powerful and perfect sounding bass drops. my problem is, i dont have an 808 and i am having the hardest time finding one with a good tone.

if somebody understands what i am talking about, PLEASE give me a link or email me the clips to [email protected]

ps: my band is coming out with our first full legnth album as soon as i get this thing figured out! check us out in about 2 days and we'll have the new music uploaded onto our myspace. we're going on tour starting oct. 3rd to boston and coming back down to our hometown in FL! so if u live anywhere on the way, like the music, and wanna see us, send us a message on myspace! we reply to EVERY message, so we will deffinately get back to you!

I hate to burst your bubble but the bass drop sound you are talking about was not done on an 808. Samples may have been mixed with an 808 kick as I referenced in the other thread. But the original bass drop sound you are talking about has been done for a very long time. It was originated on an Roland TB-303, commonly known as the Silver Synth.

You can do it on pretty much any analog synth or software synth these days. In fact amny have presets for it.

AS for someone finding them for you. You do know how to use Google don't you???

I do. You can start your search here and download whatever you want.

the only thing that burst my bubble, is that ive been a member here for quite some time now (roughly 3 maybe 4 yrs) and this is the first time somebody's been a jack *** to me. u, dB, and whosyourdaddy have been the top 3 people that have helped me out through all these years and have completely improved how my recordings' sound 10 fold... without any stupid remarks.

thanks for the help... im not an idiot; i know how to use freakin google and i wouldnt have asked that question if i wasnt having trouble finding one that i liked... i was just simply wondering if anyone already had a good clip that they could somehow let me use if it was cool with them.

for your information, i know for a fact that an 808 kick can form this sound i want... but i dont have that, nor do i have the 303. ive seen some people make that sound with in 808 right in front of me plenty of times at shows... i havent seen them around in a long while and im in a HUGE hurry to get this album made so my band has something to get gas money for on tour... so thank you very much for ur help.

by the way, on google (actually anything except passwords on the internet) you dont need to have CAPS on anything. u typed in your search, "Bass DRop Samples" exactly like that. well, thats the same thing i searched for on google... i clicked almost every link. read the first sentance i wrote when i posted this thread; do u think i was kidding?!

damn... could u at least tell me exactly what software synth i can use and how to use it to make this clip? can u give me a couple pointers on what effect on the synth software that i should use? uv always been WAY more help on this site, then to just give me a slap in the face and say, hey moron! try google! or can u at least ask one of the other admins on here to help me out somehow, cuz ur not doin too good at ur job right now.

...and if i offended u in any way, call me immature, but that really pissed me off. im really stressed out about all this, and i came to the place i always come to when i cant figure something out on my own. i gave u exapmles of what sound im going for, and u (one of the smartest people on here) gave me a link to a bunch of links that ive already looked at. can u be any more specific?

Wow.... I think you are over reacting a tad due to your stress from the upcoming album. Also, Noize answers questions every damn day. Is he not allowed to have a bad one now and again?

His know how to use google comment was sarcasm and obviously so, he was just saying nobody is going to do it for you. I punched in 808 samples in google and came up with this link right away.

www.maketunes.com/forums/808-drum-samples

If none of them work exactly how you want, EQ\Compress it to do so. I guarantee you those bands you mentioned didn't just hit the button and call it good. It's a digital instrument, make it sound like you want.

Anyway, I'm done.

Ya know. The simplest part about this "Bass Drop" thing is, don't listen to really bad music.

And if you are upset at someone because of some MINOR comment they made, at least learn how to spell if you are going to go off on someone. Just a little forum ethic.

A$shole.

ok thats just tryin to push buttons cynic... anyways, i just smoked a cig and chilled for a while. ur totally right CT, im tweakin. i get yelled at everyday by my band cuz we were supposed to have this done and uploaded to diskmakers about 3 weeks ago. theres so much that i have to get done and everyone and their mothers are pissing me off... so im sorry for all that **** i just gave.

i didnt mean i wanted people to do everything for me though... i was just wondering if people had a good site they use or free software that they know would work for my situation. i know im gonna have to mess with whatever clip i get from someone else, cuz its gotta fit my music, of course... so im ready for that. but as far as the "hit the button and call it good" thing... i have a friend who actually can do that with some program he has... problem is, only when it comes to recording, hes my rival around here. hes done a lot of local bands stuff around here and i just started getting to other bands. i aint gonna lie, he is a lot better than me at this stuff, but im gettin there... and he wont help me in any way (i have the better equipment; hes got the better experience). and even though i helped him when he first started, now we've both agreed on friendly competition to keep things fun. i just wish i knew what he uses, cuz he can actually do that with on click.

by the way cynic, i like every kind of music, as long as its played well. and even though i have an open mind to music, metal is, by far, my favorite... im a drummer that likes to play fast (hence, im a "metalhead").

if u dont like metal or hardcore... just... dont check out my band or listen to those kinds of music i guess... i dont know what else to say to that.

and i cant even talk right when i start yellin at people lol

Well, good. I'm glad you got into the right headspace... I just hate when people snap. Especially, since alllll this advice you are getting here is FREE and it was a voluntary decision to even become a part of it.

Now, about the music thing... I listen to a TON of metal. Just bands you've never heard of. Haha.

But, all in all... Good luck and good tidings.

My Bad. Sorry if you took that the wrong way. I should have put a smiley at the end of the comment as it was pretty much just a bit of sarcasm as stated.

So, the question is did you find anything yet on it?

If not, I might be able to dig something out. Or simply create one for you, if you have a pinch of time left as I'm smoking busy at the moment.

But if you have the track and the place you want it you could upload a brief section of where you need it as an mp3 and I can see if I can wip out a couple of drops that might fit in there.

I would ask though if you are looking for a straight simple bass sound or with a percussive attack like the 303/808 combination sound? I can't think of the track but there is a Rahmstein track that uses that drop, but it uses a very lite percussive attack and is a more saw wave based sound. It carries a slight buss to it as the note drops off lower and lower. Really cool sound amidst the heavy guitar sound.

Thanx guys for having my back on this one.

And yes sticado, accept an internet appology for sounding a bit crass there.

OH man, I just thought of something as well.

Can you do your won midi if I find you the VSTi synth that is killer for this??

It'll have to wait until tomorrow though as I'm gonna be going offline to finish a couple track in a minute. But let me know. I think I know just the killer synth for this if you can do a VSTi. In fact all you would need to do is have a midi track and simply drop in the note or few that you need and you'd be all good. Then you can tweak it to exactly what you want.

thanks guys... i got a bunch of clips off that site CT put up. i dont know how all of them are gonna flow (worst comes to worse, i might just use a pitch shifter and shorten or lengthen some clips). id love to be able to make my own though!

honestly though (i might sound like a total loser now...) i have no idea how to use ANYTHING with midi. it pisses me off so much, cuz i know i should at least know something. i dont have any instruments that use midi or trigger midi notes, but im not sure if thats necessary. i use sonar5 and 7 though... so i know that VSTi is somehow compatible... i just dont know what to do. is there some way i can trigger midi notes without any hardware? i got fruity loops too (dunno if that helps, i just screw around with that thing sometimes). im down for some pointers on that though! if u can do that for me, itd be very awesome! problem with uploading pieces of the songs is that there are SOOOooo many spots in random places that call for bass drops (hurray for my stupid guitarists... theyre obsessed with em, just like job for a cowboy is too lol)

about the album though, i have to finish it tonight. its 2:40am and im still not done. it doesnt have to be sent off til tomorrow night, however, im not tryin to wait til last minute. im almost done now except im adding in random effects between each song to make the entire CD flow, yet still allowing each individual song to sound normal if played alone... im also adding in these bass drops at the same time (i have every song exported to stereo and then imported ALL on one track back in sonar, in the correct order with space in between, to do all this effect stuff). but ill get online tomorrow around 6:00pm or 6:30pm to follow up on whatcha got for me... but around 9:00 i plan on uploading whatever i have onto diskmakers... so hopefully this is all gonna work out!

once again, sorry for all that crap. isnt it funny *putting myself in your shoes* how u leave, some kid blows up, gets yelled at, and apologizes before u even get the chance to come back and see what up? lmao! but seriously, that was messed up of me... sorry dude.

ps: im an idiot and forgot to say what the link to our myspace on that first post i put up.

www.myspace.com/everyth

what u hear on there is nowhere near as awesome as what i got now! i know, the guitars are uneven in volume, and some drums are too loud... i fixed EVERYTHING! IM STOKED!!! ITS AMAZING!

I tried using a midi synth too, I'm no good so I am a loser in that case as well.

I even bought a keyboard and am just going to mic speakers or run the line out and play it live.

Yes, you can trigger notes without a controller in Sonar. YOu simply open the Synth Rack and choose the synth you want it to open and it sets up an audio output track for the synth and a midi track that is mated to it as well.

There are a few free ones that came with 7 that you can try. I will have a few minutes to try and find the link to the one I would recommend using and will post it shortly if I can find it.

These two are from RGC audio which Cakewalk now owns. They are pretty easy to use and have a huge array of some killer patches.

www.cakewalk.com/Products/Triangle/Default.asp

He had one that was called Pentagon which you can get at Cakewalk as well as the z3ta+ synth. But you may have gotten the Psyn II synth with Sonar and that is also killer for doing this.

No worries dude. I know the internet is kind of cold and I'm kind of old and forget that some things I might type and chuckle about may come off as crass or just plain insulting. I just type faster then my brain thinks sometimes.

Anyway, hope you get it rolling and I'll be popping by your myspace to check the stuff out as well. I think I've listened to a couple of your tracks in the past and liked the music.
