Anyone know how to create a TS- "808" Sub bass boom type hit? (It's hard to describe but i'm sure you've heard them in many 1980's rap songs and in modern rock songs alike)It isn't really audible with smaller speakers for they cant reproduce the uber low frequencies, and I'm sure there is a way to find and/or create a sample to emulate this effect and not only control it's pitch, but it's duration and tone as well.

Any input, as always, is in much thanks.

Add a midi item to your project, put a GM soundfont in it (maybe a 808 soundfont).

Play midi event for the kick drum, get correct timing, velocity, etc.

Once the hit, velocity, etc is correct. mix it down to a wave file, pitch shift it down to 50hz or so (experiment) then put a compressor and reverb on it (more expirement).

SMACK!

If'n it were me, I'd send midi events to my keyboard, which has some decent drum kits in it. Send midi to the keyboard, then record it's output in a new channel.

These are just a couple ideas, hopefully this will get you started in a process that will work for you.

There are a lot of free wav files of them here.

But if you have a VSTi or DXi synth you can use you can also create one that way with any of the bass patches they might have.

I usually combine that with a very low tuned kick sample and the adjust to taste for the amount of attack you want it to have.
