I read an article about it in PC Mag about a month ago. But, haven't heard much more about it... Anyone have any other info/opinions about it?

I was reading about it online, after you posted this. I wanted to see if they were finally going to scrap Vista.

As I was reading about it, it dawned on me. This was the trick that they pulled on all of the IT guys that didn't want to go to Vista.

The trick is that it is Vista. They just gave a different name to it, so that the IT guys would try it.

Nice try Microsoft! It is not going to happen for me. All of my third party drivers are working right now. Why would I want to move backwards to where nothing works!

Nope! I was wrong. Turns out it was Windows Mojave. That was the trick.

So, I went back and read some more on the 7. It just looks like a giant IPhone. The worst part is, nothing is backwards compatible. All of the software you have now, will not work on it.

Lovely Microsoft. Just Lovely. My next purchase will be a Mac!

I think I'm going to look into Linux. My little brother uses it and loves it... Is there support for it in audio "stuff" at all?

UbuntuStudio is probably the easiest way to get started... and is what I use.
ubuntustudio.org/

CCRMA (karma) is probably the most respected... and is maintained by Stanford University... I've just never had a good download of Fedora :)
ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/

Dyne:bolic dynebolic.org/ is a Live CD... extremely light weight... but a bit odd because the the light weightness... if you want to test out some applications without actually installing anything this is probably the best way...

Ubuntu is definitely the go.

Been using it for a while now and i am sssoooo happy to be rid of windows.

I just use Virtual box for any apps that don't run on Linux

I've also got Ubuntu running off the other hard disk. And I'm running the server LTS edition on my file server (which hosts most my VST)

While the audio side isn't -quite- on par (namely VST/i stuff) there are some pretty good apps for it. Ardour and Rosegarden in particular are good at what they do. Rosegarden has the bonus of having a built-in music notation editor, which is a huge plus for me heh.

Waiting for the 8.10 release =]

Mac has been doing the "your software will not work with our new OS" for years. I don't see how that would be a step up from MS.

well I just crossed over to the dark side and , my Mac is runing great, and i didn't have to scrap any of my software (IE sonar) . as a lot of you know I'm a big Cakewalk advocate and that's been my bigest gripe about mac. well , Boot camp works just fine ( i've been using it for a few month and no problems yet).

Sorry, I meant Mac was bad about making you purchase upgrades to "their" software whenever the OS was upgraded. With programs like Final Cut costing an arm and a leg, I had a couple friends in the video editing side that were very turned off by it when they bought a newer machine.

Yes, you have to be careful with some of that software... otherwise you might loose your dongle! :)
