Hi
Appreciate some help here. I want to record midi output from a microkorg thru a presonus firebox. I can get midi output but I can't get the native sound of the korg for example when I set up the arpeggiator and hit a key, the output from CUbase is a piano for example!! And be gentle - as little jargon as possible would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

Sep 03, 2008 09:54 pm Well to start with welcome to HRC.
As for trying to record the Micro Korgs onboard sounds through midi, that is not possible as midi is only note data and not audio. To record the actual sounds from the Micro you will need to use the line outputs of the Micro into a pair of line inputs on the Presonus.
The Reason Cubase is using a piano sound is that it is simply assigning a generic General midi patch from the software general midi synth, probably windows GM sound synth.
Hope this helps some.

There are midi in, out and through on the back of the micro which plug into two round jacks which are both joineded to a RS232( I think) which attaches to the back of the Micro - there are also two instrument jacks on the front of the presonus.
Sorry to be a slow on the up take here and thanks for getting back to me.

Sep 04, 2008 07:39 pm OK, I forgot that th firebox is one of their smaller interfaces. But yes, the instrument inputs will do the job to get the audio from the Micro into your recording software.
