I having some problems with my Tascam US-1641 USB audio/midi interface. When I playback audio through a balanced line out it comes back distorted in my speakers. It's not the speakers because I tried several pairs, so I'm thinking its something with the way I have it set up. First of all I'm not sure what a "balanced" output means. What I have right now is a stereo 1/4" to stereo 1/8" adapter with a stereo 1/8" cable running to my speakers. Any help is apreciated

Sep 02, 2008 08:27 pm hey blinky i have one of these devices too.
a balanced line out is stereo i think.
as in balanced cables.
i would check your computer and where your driver is for the US1641 just re click it to make sure its a good and check your latency.
with mine it sometimes cracks a sad and does a similar thing, so i go in and re click the latency button which seems to fix it.
also just try jiggling ya audio cables there too. if you have an adapters connecting stuff up it could be crackling.
Sep 02, 2008 09:25 pm yea I've been reading up on balanced lines and I think I pretty much get it. Eventually I'm wanting to get M-Audio BX8a's and the input on them is a balanced line also. Something I don't really get is if a balanced line is stereo, why does each monitor need a separate balanced input. Wouldn't you just need one balanced line. I don't know if I made any sense, so sorry if I didn't

Sep 05, 2008 05:08 pm hey fellas,
i just wanted to kinda hijack this thread, to thank deon, for unadvertantly guiding me thru my 1641 setup. so, thanks deon. i couldnt figure out how to get input one to record to track one, and input 2 to rec to 2 and so on and so forth, up to 12.
i had the stereo outs good, but, the ins were all being registered thru the first xlr input on the tascam. trying to figure out my routing blunder, i had to check this forum, and low and behold, you had the answer that fixed my problem. so......
THANKS DEON, you totally rocked my recording world today. *big happy smile here*
