ok ever time i open up my Pro tools LE I get this error message:

* Session must be on an audio record volume. If permitted, set the volume(s) in question to “R” (record) in the Workspace.

thin when i try and open a session that i have done i get this erroe message:

* This session is saved in a volume set to “Transfer” only.
If permitted, set the volume(s) in question to “P” (Playback) or
“R” (record) in the Workspace.
Otherwise, choose OK to save a copy of this session and its media to a valid playback volume. The session copy will automatically open from the chosen location.

whats do i need to do to get this to not happen i am saving all my stuff to and External hard drive and i am running on a PowerBook G4 if u can help me that would be great thanks!!!

I'm not a PT guy at all. And that is partly the reason. Too many things to have to watch when saving or transferring files.

You may have to do as they stated and re-save the copy. But make sure to check the actual save settings to insure it is saved for playback.

There will be several choices to make in the save dialog, read them carefully and make sure you choose the proper save type.

Hopefully another PT le user will stop by and have a more definite answer.

Maybe the external drive is not considered a valid playback volume in PT? Just a thought since I'm not familiar with the software. What if you try saving to the internal drive?

Good call Nightcap. That very well could be. I know a lot of guys had trouble with the Glyph drives years ago. The system would not recognize them at times. And by system I mean PT.

That might be worth a look for sure.

I see, you didn't mention that it was working already and just stopped working now. That is kind of important for us to know to narrow down what might be happening.

I would look to any hardware or software changes you have made just before it stopped working. Or possibly something got moved or deleted that was part of what tied the project files together.

Have you had the drive plugged into another computer or anything? Or did you change the drive letter, or did it get changed by accident?

I'm not a rocket scientist, but since you acknowledge that the problem started after Waves was installed, that tells me Waves is the culprit not PT.

Have you thought about uninstalling Waves? If that 'repairs' PT than you at least know that Waves is doing something that blocks disk access in PT.

I did a quick Google search and I found several pages talking about problems on the Mac G4 with PT and Waves. This may not apply to your situation, but I want to point it out anyway.

I guess knowing that I would first try what Nightcap suggested and un install the Waves pluggin's. If that does not do the trick, it is possible that a system roll back might help it out.

But as well I had a quick look and found some of the same hints to Waves and PT not playing nice together as well. So it iw probably the odds on favorite to be the culprit behind the error's you are getting.

I believe I mentioned rolling the system back to a date when it was working properly might do the trick there. Simply removing the Waves pluggin bundle will not re set anything to were it was before. YOu may need to look into the reg as well to remove anything that Waves might have dropped in there.
