i got me an Edirol midi cont.
I've installed the software but do i need it if i am going into the midi port of my interface?

Also, I can hear it and record etc.,but some keys dont make any sound, do i have to assign them or something else?

all i've done so far is install the software and am trying to play it through HAL-ion in cubase.

IF your just going to use it through your interface that should be fine. What kind of software did it come with?

As far as some keys not working. Well some instruments only have a certain range so that might be part of it. Or is it on any instrument you play that certain keys don't work.

They may be reserved in a preset on the keyboard for controller data as well.

i bought it off ebay, it didnt come with software just the edirol cd, must be the drivers n stuff i guess.

its got 32 keys and from left to right, the first few are ok then moving up to the middle a few there and then towrds the end a few more.
I guess i gotta look thru the manual. getting sick of reading up on stuff ya know? suppose tha's what happens if you keep getting new stuff.

There is a panic button i read about, something to do with putting it back to default or something, will give that a try.
Im hoping it not busted, but its in excellent condition, like it hasnt been used much at all.

Hey Noize i sent you an email about har-bal dont know if you read it or not yet, but like you said before its pretty easy to get the gist of, so you can disregard the email, me thinks me got it sussed.

Did you buy it used by chance??

I wonder if it had some bad keys on it and they just didn't say anything. Sometimes a good deal isn't really a good deal.

On the email, ya cool. I am so far behind right now I'm not sure I'll catch up till next week.

If you can see it recording then it probably is not the keyboard. Try using a basic piano patch. Channel 10 for example is just for drums and not every key is assigned to a drum sound.

you've got a dirty keyboard, i'd invest in some air-spray and also "electronic contact cleaner" not sure if the computer sore would have it, but an electronics store would have both.

take apart the outter shell and see if you can get the grime out on the little rubber pad directly undernieth (sp?) the back of the key....

this can also back-fire and you can push more dirt in, try to hit the contacts at a very tight angle, almost paraell to the board as to push the dirt out and away from the board.

i found that one out the hard way.

best of luck

ok, here we go again!
well i did fix it but, the keys are very unstable, some loud some soft etc etc.
So the dude i bought it off is giving me a refund, pretty cool huh?

anyway, question now is, i found another one on ebay which is a Roland 49 key but it has no onboard sound or anything for $98.
Do you think its worth getting?

Do i really need a keyboard sound bank or would i be better off just getting one with??
Im never going to be a keyboard player as such and i only really need it to for backing keys and sounds.

A simple controller like the Roland 49 key will be just fine. I don't have any keyboards left here that are synth type units at all. Just an 88 key piano weighted controller and a Radium 49. I still have a rack of hardware synth modules but I rely mostly on software synth's now and don't really miss my hardware keyboard synths that much anymore at all.
