audition 1.5 and XP

Cannot monitor live-only on playback. There were two threads that touched on this topic. One ended frustratingly with the unanswered question as to the location of a monitoring button on audition 1.5 when the moderator had provided a screenshot of version 2 with the buttons. I am sure that this is a common problem, but I couldn't find an answer. The program and computer record fine, but no sound while recording. XP laptop in mic entry.
Thanks if anyone has any ideas.

Can't be done, sorry. Version 2 was the first to come out with live monitoring. I remember using a routing work-around though (using real cables and my soundcard).

?

Live monitoring as in: hearing what you're recording as you record it? My 1.5 does that just fine. Am I misinterpreting something?

I think I am lost on the question also. I remember the whole monitoring thread you refer to, but what exactly are you not hearing when trying to record? Are you not hearing the previously recorded tracks or the one you are currently trying to record?

If the latter, this has nothing to do with Audition, you would simply route your interface to your headphones(speakers) then un-mute the input being recorded in your interface control panel.

If you are using a built in sound card, un-mute your mic playback (or line in) in the windows audio control panel.

Honestly, if you filled out your gear profile it may help.

In regards to "live monitoring" in 2.0, that made it so your signal would be routed through audition before routing back to your interface so you could hear effects being processed while recording... the latency was too high to be of any use for me though.
