I bought Harbal the other day, but didnt realize it wasnt for mac's so im a bit peeved.
Do i do a mixdown and then import that into harbal? or do i need to run it through Harb's before mixdown?

I have a windows lapy i can use if its the first one, other wise i dunno what i will do. unless i wack Cubase on the lapy as well.
Cheers.

I usually read that it will work on my system before i buy something. :-)

But ya, I always use it on the stereo mix down. Most here do that as that is pretty much what it is intended for.

Every now and then I'd do a single track in HarBal if it needs some tweaking or something, but, as a rule, it is for the final mix of a song.

well i just had a look at it on my lapy and seriously, i may need some pointers on this one.

Its pretty bloody technical to say the least.
what i wanna start with i guess, is to anylize a CD track im happy with and use it as template for other stuff.
i read some of the tutorial, but its a little over my head to start with.

would appreciate maybe a quick one from you guys in a language i can understand.

I is no dummy, but I's noses nuddin about this mastering caper.

Actually, I have found Har-Bal to be the easiest tool I have in my arsenal...

If you read the mastering tutorial on the Har-Bal web site, or the older, but still relevent tutorial here at HRC www.homerecordingconnecti...tory&id=463 it should kick you in the right direction.

I tried it. And used it for three days on several of my mixes. I didnt see any benefit. I know alot of people here like it and use it, but with some of my current plugins I can visualize and do the same thing. Couldnt justify the money spent. Har-Bal was great on the refund.

Harbal is a good tool, especially in an untreated room.

I as well have used Harbal on single tracks on rare occasion, and it does work there as well. It is kind of useful when you want to see exactly what the tweak is doing to the track.

But for mastering it is really pretty easy to use and the visual part is what can really guide you.

As dB stated simply run a CD track that you think is in the area of the final sound you want. analyze it in Harbal and take a good look at what the curve looks like.

Then it is simply a matter of loading your track and dragging up or down, eliminating the peaks and valleys that do not match what you are trying to do. Then save it and your done.
