I have just about finished putting all the tracks down for this CD when I realized something. For some reason the last tracks over the last week or so we have been laying have been going down in 16bit instead of the usual 32bit. So now I have a song with like 12 tracks in 32bit and 2 or 3 tracks in 16bit. Is this gonna be OK or do I have to relay those tracks now??\

that should work... accidently changing project sampling rates is usually what causes problems along those lines

So when you say Sampling rates your talking the 44.1KHz and 48KHz etc correct?? So my files are ok because they may be 32 and 16 bit mixed up, but the Sampling Rate is 44.1 for both regardless... am I correct in this assumption??

I know Sonar can import and use mixed bit and sample rates. Not sure on other programs though.

But you should run a quick mixdown and test it before you go too much farther.

You can simply export the 16 bit tracks and convert them to 32 bit float if your program allows that, then import them back into the project.

I'm at work right now, but can anyone who uses Sonar confirm what Noize stated? That would be great because it is very difficult for me to get my fellow band mates into my studio to record tracks and I was hoping on getting these Mixes out for Mastering in the next week or so.

Yeah, that sounds right to me .

Simply re-export them to the desired bit/sample rate .

BTW, I did the same thing recently... but I wan'na rerecord it anyhoo .

Don't do that, please ask in one place and wait...it'll get answered no faster by asking many times...it'll just annoy people.

The Mastering guy wants the songs mixed down to 24-bit to work with them, so does it even matter about upsampling the 16-bit tracks, seeing that the entirety of all the tracks are going to be converted to 24-bit on MixDown to Stereo-WAV file??

Probably . He wants that higher resolution to work in... can't say as I blame him . Mixing at 24bits, and dither-down at the mastering phase .

...but it's not like taking a 16 bit file and upsampling will gain anything other than a bigger file...and some dithering...

...ever try to upsize a digital picture?

Ok... so then according to you dB I should just leave the tracks as is and Export the Entire Mix to 24bit as Stereo WAV 44.1 and be done with it??

I have to throw a couple of last minute tracks on a song, but it is recording them at 16bit even though the rest are all 32bit. How do I make the track record in 32bit instead of 16??

Never Mind.... thats weird. The files are recording as 32bit yet the project at the bottom says it's 16bit. Thanks anyways
