Howdy chaps and chapetts,
i know nothing about midi controllers at this point and im keen as to buy one.
can someone/s lead me in the right direction in regards to this?
there is an Edirol 32 key one on ebay for $123 aud. would that be a good one to get? or too expensive?

Jul 09, 2008 01:38 am If it's the Edirol PCR-300 than it's a good buy. Over here they go new for $249 US or more. The number of keys depends on what you are planning to do with it. That's something only you know.

Jul 09, 2008 04:35 am I also had a look at the Behringer UMX49 MIDI controller. think its comes with Ableton or something for $220 aud.
are they ok, or a bit on the cheap?
i guess its only a midi controller what could go wrong with it?

Jul 09, 2008 05:09 am Honestly, why not get an all in one? For 299$ American you could get a Yamaha NP 30, which would suit you both on stage, if youre on that sort of thing, as well as in the studio as a midi controller. Synth software is pretty cheap nowadays, and given you can bring laptops and even ICD's to gigs, (improvised computing devices, like a 7" Acer ICD,) it's a cost conscious buy, at least in my book. Then again, I'd only need it for piano sounds live, so it would work for me. But regardless, I think we've all lost track of the fact that as long as it has midi ins and outs, it's a workhorse at your fingertips given you push it the right way. 100$ or 5,000$, it's still a bunch of keys. Just my penny pinching *** trying to save a fellow musician a buck or two. :)

Jul 09, 2008 10:10 am cheers for that Keith.
Mate, in this game saving coin on one thing, gives you just that bit more for the next item. So i think its a good way to look at things quite franlky.
I get what ya saying, if its got keys thats all ya need really.
I would only need it for studio stuff, for cubase 4 etc. but if i end up keen on the beringer one for 220 i may as well look at getting the Yamy you suggested.
but i still maybe able to get the Edirol on ebay for $123.
thanks for the info dudes, appreciated.
