Jul 07, 2008 11:32 pm The e300 is a nice mic indeed. Very under rated for what it is, but build quality has been an issue at times for them. Not so much these days though as I have heard very good things about them lately. The Sterling Audio would be a good choice as well, a good mic for that price.
As for AKG, the C414 is an absolute killer, but I believe is a bit above that price range. But the C214 is closer and is based on the 414. I have seen it a couple places for as low as $450 but it usually runs around $550 tp $599.
But it is a killer mic as well.
Jul 08, 2008 12:28 am yea i did my research and i ended up getting a studio projects c3..it seemed to be the best choose for the genre of music im doing..but now im lookin for good premp around 300 or under..i only need 2 mic inputs..also would it be wise to get a limitor to?or just let the software do that?let me know

Jul 08, 2008 08:13 am hmm, i wouldn't have thought the C3 was an upgrade over an AT4040. I'd have thought the other way 'round.
I would A/B those two before you can't return the C3.
Though, maybe the C3 is more what you're looking for. It's always good too have a choice in your mic locker.
< disclaimer >
I've only used the C1 from SP, and have not tried the AT4040, so I'm only basing this upon inet research, etc.

Jul 08, 2008 11:05 am see the thing is my at 4040 is old ,n it .
*just dont sound the same to me..also its not really the sound i want any more,it lacks presence n warthm, althought its very very clear.its also really heavy on the hi end..well see what the c3 sounds like tho..worst comes to worst ill return it and get the sterling..although i heard the sterling had the same prob as the at.

Jul 08, 2008 07:31 pm Well the thing of it is the 4040 is not a vocal mic at all. It was really built around recording acoustic guitars and hand percussion and the like. It is not very good at vocals at all.
The C3 is a more versatile mic, but it would never compare to the 4040 when it comes to what the 4040 was made for.
But ya, for the vocals then the C3 is a better choice. Not bad on other things either.
Jul 08, 2008 07:54 pm thanx...can u reccomend a good pre?and i was wonder if it would be worth gettin a limit, would that stop my vocals from peaking thru the pre?im lookin for somethin like that..imma try the c3,and if its not wat im lookin for imma shoot for the st77,although i heard that was more of a hi's type of mic to...dunno

Jul 09, 2008 11:58 am Presence and warmth, my K2 excels at that. Only really nice mic I have so I can't compare it to others. I was not going to comment as I was just reading but if there is anything the K2 does well, it's add warmth.
