So I finally gave into the hype. I bought HarBal and gave it a first round on a song I recorded today on a whim called "Coming Back for You." Given it's a rough recording without an ending, it really made a huge difference, and I feel I've reached a new pinnacle in my recording voyage with this song.

I tried a few new techniques with this song; I mixed the song based on the guitar level, which I usually turn up, but decided to keep centrifugal this time around. The accompaniment vocals and instruments were layed down lower than it comes out through most systems I've played it on, but sounds good to me so I feel I should work with the curve I'm on in that respect. Any pointers, advice, and/or criticism is always welcome.

Hey Keith,

This sounds great! I just did a little A/B comparison between this song and the other song in your profile. This one blows the other one away! Your vocal is right up front and everything feels very balanced in terms of the mix and the overall loudness. The acoustic guitar sounds a little bit thin compared to everything else, but I know that's something you're working on as stated in another thread.

Great job...keep it up!

HOLY **** that is fantasic!

And ya, I would say you've reached a new pinnacle alright. Right to the top.

I'm such a sucker for the piano and string thing. But I have to say you are using it so well now. The whole piece is together nicely. A couple tweaks and an ending and your home with this one.

Why is it though that all your tunes have a tendency to strike a huge chord in my gut? I think its the way you are orchestrating and arranging them. A very familiar sound to them.

I'll be giving it another listen with fresher ears tomorrow as I just spent the last 3 1/2 hours mixing, but it still sounds killer to me.

Very well written as well.

Awesome! The song has a characteristic that I would call "haunting". Noize2u said it differently: "a huge chord in my gut". I realize your style is not the same, but it reminds me of Jackson Browne in his best days. He could "haunt" me too. A few touches here and there and you the man.
