Plz forgive if this q has already been answered I could not find it ! LOng story short... Too Late...Most prob never heard of SAWStudio, but it used to work fine...My old Raid gave up the ghost, had to install a Firewire into my Dell 2400 XP SP2 Pentium 4. Motu support not so helpful. Not a slam just fact. Anyhow the Motu drivers install fine. Of course after turning off all Virus/Anti Spy/Etc...BUT, When I try to Install the New Device/Motu 896 It crashes Windows/Computer freezes up !!! AAAARGH. Been trying to fix this for a couple of weeks now. Already missed one session...Got another scheduled for July 26. ANYBODY Got Any Ideas ?

make sure you have the most recent driver download, make sure Windows is fully updated, outside of that, sounds like a driver problem...so you'd have to deal with Motu support...which is unfortunate.

Dig This ! Motu Made the original 896 FIRST which the driver(s) from the 896HD won't work on !!! Anyone know where I can obtain the old 896 driver ?
One would think a certain company would have their stuff more together...

What card are you using to hook up the 896, PCI 324 or 424 or is it USB or firewire.

Rather then call MOTU lame maybe try going to the downloads section and register. Then you can simply download the drivers you need. They are the same for all units depending on whether it is the PCI 324 or 424 card or USB or firewire.

I've been installing their gear for years and used it as well. Never had an issue with drivers crashing. And as far as I know there is no driver difference from old to new other then as I stated above. Either PCI card drivers or USB or firewire.

So they didn't make a driver that doesn't work, some gave you a driver that is wrong for the unit.

First off, I never called Motu Support "Lame". Second I already registered with Motu and tried their drivers. Turns out the new drivers for the 896 HD won't work on the Original 896. Quote MOTU.
I am using a SIIG PCI -32T. Which contains a Texas Insts Chip...Which Motu sez you should have for their Software to talk to...
I love the 896 it has served me well also.

My question though is how is it hooked up.

Are you using the PCI 324 or 424 card or USB or firewire?

If I remember correctly that unit should be the 324 card. And if so the current drivers for the 324 or 424 PCI card will work. I just did a pair of 896's a while ago on new PC's and they work fine.

The cards themselves use the same drivers no matter which interface is hooked to them. And there are several PCI interface that use the 324 or 424 card.

But indeed, the TI chip is the best one to use when working with MOTU or any other firewire gear at the moment.

Using Firewire. First i tried going back to Win 2000 cuz somebody said @ Motu site Win 2000 was the correct time period correct driver for the original 896...I was then able to get My recording system SAWStudio to finally see and utilize the Motu. But it started glitching.
So next I found www.dontcrack.com/freewar...re-USB-Driver/# I installed this into XP SP2 first, then when windows prompted new device found, I ignore and presto !
So far so good!
Thnx!
