Jun 28, 2008 09:14 pm bass traps can be suspended from the ceilings they take up some space but they absorb bass frequency good. if you have a db meter you can locate the spots in your room where the low frequency is at its highest DB and thats where you would want the bass traps.

Jun 28, 2008 09:23 pm also i think sound is traveling up thru the vent..any way to stp that
Jun 28, 2008 09:24 pm Yes but they have to be placed properly and be the correct diameter for the frequency you are trying to trap hence "bass trap"

Jun 28, 2008 09:24 pm I kind of answered this in the other thread you have going. But yes, adding more absorption will help some. Rockwool is not a true bass trap and will help some but not a lot.
You might need to look at building something a bit more directed at low frequency absorption.

Jun 28, 2008 09:28 pm I would suggest looking at Auralex brand stuff. They make a product called Sheet Block that I use in the ceiling here and in the air vents. It cuts down a huge amount of sound that is allowed out.
The other alternative is building the room to be sound proof. That is pretty expensive as well.
Jun 28, 2008 09:56 pm yea that was actully a diff problem that i fixxed..this is more of a sound traveling problem

Jun 29, 2008 12:10 am I use a suspended ceiling with sound tiles. The whole downstairs has the tiles installed.
Any thing you can put between the rooms will help cut down on the amount of sound that travels through them. But the only true way to do it is a full studio type set up. But yes, the sheetblock works a charm on cutting down a lot. Just make certain you install it properly.
And ya, if that is the real stuff that is a decent price. I suggest looking around though for pricing on it. If you have a local shop that deals in or can get Auralex have them as well price it for you.
Jul 01, 2008 01:22 pm what if i just did my whole room with that sheetblok, would i need to do anything else

Jul 01, 2008 11:07 pm Oh ya! Sheet block is as it sounds targeted at blocking sound. Not deadening or absorbing it. It is meant to be used behind other material. I've used it in other facilities under the floor, in the walls and in the ceiling. But never just put it up on the wall itself.
You still need some kind of absorption and diffusing.
