I'm running Vista.. (grrrr)
And I finally got it setup so I can record, but I am getting this crackle sound that I can't seem to get rid of...
It's coming through on my recordings also.

I I enabled background processing, played with the buffer...
But STILL get the crackle...

Any suggestions?

Hey dude, Summer is a busy time around here so answers don't always come real fast.

But anyway, it sounds like you need to adjust the buffer settings up a little bit. I know the UA unit has some issues with driver stability and stuff and the might be a cause as well.

Make certain you have the latest driver's downloaded and installed for the unit. Then adjust the record and playback buffers up to maybe 256 or 512 and that might hopefully cure it.

The cheaper Edirol units are prone to not playing nice, especially with Vista. You might also take a look and see if there is a conflict with any on-board sound card that might be on the MoBo.

i have the latest driver and tried all kinds of buffer settings...
it's so weird, I can even here crackle when I type on the keyboard or click and move the mouse...

Any other ideas?

this thing cost like $300.00 bucks..
don't think it's that cheap...

Well the going price for a new unit is less then $240 so if you actually paid that much you got taken a bit.

As for the drivers, I noticed on the Roland website that there seem to be several choices of drivers for Vista. On another note I have read in several reviews that the drivers were extremely unstable to say the least.

I would suggest there are other issues at work here with Vista itself if you are getting noise from simply typing or moving the mouse around.

You might try hitting up tech support at Roland or Edirol and see what they have to say about it.

In most cases the sounds you are getting during recording or playback are simply buffer issues. But it sounds like the issues you are having are much deeper then that.
