BEHRINGER XENYX 1622FX - Need Help!!!!!

I am fairly new to home recording and dealing with mixers. So, I am going to tell you what I have and then what I am trying to do.

I have:

macbook pro
KRK 8's
KRK Sub
Xenyx 1622FX Mixer
mbox2 (w/protools)
Reason 4

I am trying to make my beats on the laptop using reason, but control the volume with the mixer. I also would like the sub to be connected to the mixer and be able to control the volume of the sub, with the sliders that says sub 1-2. So, basically, how can I hook up everything above? Also, when I play a song with itunes, it sounds hella good. When I play a track I made in Reason, it doesn't play as loud and I be having the volume all the way up! Do you know what's the cause?

I hope I am not confusing.

Thank in advance!!! I really appreciate it!!!!

Well you won't be able to control the volume in Reason from the mixer, unless it is a control surface type, which that unit is not.

But you can run the channels of the mbox back into the mixer and out the mains and sub outs. Which by the way the sub outputs 1 - 2 are not for a subwoofer only. They are actually spare output channels controlled aside from the main buss outputs of the mixer.

As for itune sounding better. Have you mastered and finished the track to radio play quality? That means tweaking the EQ and maximizing the track to its loudest without clipping.

Here's what I'd try:

The mbox2 looks like it can take 4 analog inputs, so I'd say:

mic1 into mbox xlr 1
mic2 into mbox xlr 2
mic3 into mixer xlr 1
mic4 into mixer xlr 2

mixer channel 1 insert into mbox line input 3 (aux in, line, L)
mixer channel 2 insert into mbox line input 4 (aux in, line, R)

* Note *
to use channel inserts, use a 1/4" mono patch cable, plug the jack in to the first indent, not all the way in.
* end note *

Now you have 4 separate channels into PTLE.

Output

out 1 from mbox into mixer channel 13 line input (L of stereo pair)
out 2 from mbox into mixer channel 14 line input (R of stereo pair)

out 3 from mbox into mixer channel 15 line input (L of stereo pair)
out 4 from mbox into mixer channel 16 line input (R of stereo pair)

This section above, sends 2 sets of your stereo output back into the mixer on stereo inputs (13/14 & 15/16).

Now, on the mxer, set channels 1, 2 to flow into the MAINS group, and the SUB group.

On the channel 13/14, set it to flow into MAINS output, but not SUB.

On the channel 15/16, set it to flow into the SUB group, but not the MAINS group.

Connect your KRK monitors to the MAINS output on the mixer.

Connect your KRK sub to the SUB outputs.

Change the EQ on the channel 15/16 so that all the high end is cut out. so set treble all the way left, i believe.

You can now control the volume of your monitors (with channel 13/14 fader) and control the sub volume (with channel 15/16 fader) and overall volume with your master fader.

You can control how much raw input (mixer channel 1, 2) you hear in the monitors by adjust the channel faders for each channel. Adjusting the fader will not change how much level gets recorded: this adjustment is done with the mixer trim / gain control on each channel (at the top).

Now to hear the mbox incoming signals, you'll have to hear (monitor) it through the mixer, but there's no other way, if you're using 4 inputs. If you wanted to just record 2 inputs, and control with mixer, then use the mixer inputs, instead of the mbox xlr inputs.

Set PTLE to send a stereo pair to both sets of outputs on the mbox. This sends 1 set of stereo outs to monitors, and one set to the sub.

As far as controlling output volume coming from inside the PC, you'll have to use software to set that, like Noize2u said.

I hope that all made sense.
