Punch In Problem

Howdy everyone. I am in the process of laying down a Guitar Solo track, and being that I am not the greatest of guitar soloist's I am needing to punch in over some of the track to correct mistakes. I am using Sonar 6PE. I arm the track, set the punch In and Out and then press Record. All is well until I hit stop and the track never lays down. It graphically shows a track being placed in the punch in zone, but when I press stop it just disappears leaving a blank notch in the track. What am I doing wrong??

In my software, I hit record to start the punch in, and record to stop it. I don't know if it could be something as simple as that.

Try looking into layers as well. You might find it helpful. You can pick from various parts of the performance.

It might also be in the record settings. You need to set it so that it will replace the data that is on the track.

But as BH stated using layers as well will help you keep track of where the wav is going.

That worked CptTripps. I needed to hit the record button twice, not record and stop.

I started experimenting using the Layers. Very cool... that opens up a whole new region of making our recordings better. thanks. I wonder what else this program does that I am missing out on? I guess it's time to open up some of my tutorial books for Sonar 6 and get to reading.

no, not unless you are an outrageous power-user geek from hell.

I've done very little punching in. I prefer to go over the whole part or just the phrase. I tend to chop up my parts so they are totally silent in between phrases.

I record on separate tracks for the "do-overs," then use volume envelopes to "punch" them in.

mclir9, no it isn't an absolute must if you are doing fine with 6. 7 is a much more powerful upgrade, but to use it to its full potential you will need a very fast PC. It did offer some newer tools and such, but unless you are doing full on production work that will help pay for it I don't see it as an absolute must.

In my case it is what make me money so I need to stay up to date. And yes as dB stated I am an outrageous power-user geek from hell.

But I think for the depth you are at 6 is more then adequate and has more then enough tools to produce absolutely fine end product.
