Sonar 5; VST Adapter 4 problem

ok, i have absolutley no idea how to fix my problem... it gets tricky.

absolutely none of my VST's are working on Sonar 5. i thought it was just drumagog for a little bit but i recently discovered that none of them work.

i tried using the VST Wizard, it found all the VST's and it said they would work... but they don't. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling all my VST's... and when i when to click the "unwize" icon for VST Adapter 4, it couldn't find the install log for some reason.

I was wondering, is that the problem? the fact that it doesn't have the log? cuz i know the install log pretty much writes down every action that the program does... since it has nowhere to write, could that be the reason why it wont do anything?

when i open up drumagog, i can select the drum i want to sample, i can adjust all the knobs, and swap back and forth between analog and visual modes. but i cant go to the tabs: samples and advanced... its just stuck on the "main" tab.

i downloaded all the patches from cakewalk for sonar. im gonna try to see if steinburg has a patch for the VST Adapter 4. but if all els fails, if someone has this, can somebody email me the install log for the VST Adapter 4 please? that would be awesome!

You are going to need to un-install it completely and re-install it from scratch.

If it found everything and listed it then it was working. Clicking the unwize button probably caused a corruption in the file as that is part of the un-install program so you should not have clicked that.

Once it find all the VSTi's and such then it will ask if you want to initialize them when it asks you to. Then it will all be fine. You may also want to check and make sure your VSTi's are all in the same or folder or a subfolder. This really helps keep things organized.

ok so, ur sayin to uninstall sonar and reinstall it? i did click the unwize thing, but it didnt even let me do anything... it said i couldnt uninstall it that way because the install log was missing. i looked through everything else on the cakewalk program and all of the little programs that help run sonar had their own individual install logs; except for vst adapter 4.

instead of reinstalling everything, do u think that if somebody emailed me the log that it would work (speaking as if somebody gave me the log from the same vst adapter)? cuz id rather get all my mixing done until that point than to redo everything ive already done...

or, does sonar save the projects and all the settings? cuz then i dont mind doin it... i just dont want to lose all the settings ive done to the songs

AS long as your saving it as either a .cwp or .cwb file you are completely fine. All your file data is there in one place if you are doing the .cwb file which is a bundle file of all the project data and audio.

As for un installing the full Sonar 5 app, no you should not need to do that. You simply need to un install the VST 4 adapter application itself. But it sounds as if the file has been corrupted though so you may need to go into the registry as well and remove the reg files relating to it from there.

As far as someone emailing you a log file, nope that will not work as each install is built around your computers registry and system files. If I sent mine it would do you no good because it is built around the data which relates to my or any one else's PC alone.

But from what I can see that the install log is missing you may not even have the full adapter installed.

Did you upgrade from Sonar 4 or anything like that? I'm wondering if the adapter got corrupted along the way somewhere, or did you just get this and install it now?

I'm on Sonar 7 PE already and haven't used Sonar 5 in a few years so I don't honestly remember what version the adapter was at before or at 5.

ive only installed sonar 5 on it... the vst adapter came with it (its version 4). it didnt ever say it was a demo though, so i dont think it was corrupted because of a trial or anything. i cant install it alone though because it came on the CD that installs the whole program and when i open the CD, i cant find a dir that has the vst adapter. thats why i was thinking about uninstalling the entire thing. but if the adapter is corrupt, then uninstalling sonar as a whole wont delete all the reg files for the adapter will it? which means, either way, id have to screw around with the regestry (and im not good at that... im afraid ill delete something that im not supposed to).

crap

OK, that is a good sign though. I guess I would suggest one of two alternatives.

1: Un-install the whole thing as you were thinking and start fresh. I think you may be OK if you use the un installer in the Cakewalk menu in the programs directory so that is good.

2: try installing the patches again, I think there are at least 3 from that version, maybe two. That would be the easiest if it worked for sure but I can't say for certain that will cure the problem.

When I refer to it being corrupted I am talking about during the installation process, not in the disc itself so that should not be an issue.
