I'm not sure what Mastering is, but...

Hi,
I have played in tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9/10.

I bounced them to 15/16.

When I listen to 15/16 it sounds fine, but on the cd I make I can barely hear tracks 4 and 6 (the piano and bass). I even turned them up extra loud, but they won't come through loudly.

It doesn't seem like I have control of what I'm sending to the cd or something.

The bars that go up and down don't change when I move the faders when I send to tracks 15/16 if that helps.

Is there something I'm not doing?

I have the MR-16.

I am thinking that what I'm hearing and what I'm sending to 15/16 aren't the same thing. So maybe what I think I'm sending to a cd is not really what I'm sending.

Maybe what I'm typing right now is not really what I'm typing.
Anyhooty, I really appreciate any help.

Hey Julie, welcome to HRC first off.

I had a quick look into the MR-16 from the Fostex site. I didn't have time to look into the manual pdf yet though so am not well versed on it. But from using other similar units in the past it sounds like you are doing things pretty well right.

My only question would be to ask if you are getting tracks 4 and 6 in at a good level that is equal to or greater then the other tracks? That might be playing a part in it.

Another thought is if you are using the mastering presets on the unit before sending it out to CD or during the mix down to 15/16?

Funny thing is though they claim to be able to bounce all 16 tracks to a stereo file but if they are using 15/16 for the bounce that seems rather odd.

I am also wondering if there is an option in the bounce options to simply bounce directly to CD with the mastering on.
