I’m new to home recording and don’t have a lot of money to spend. I’ve been looking for a cheap way to record my acoustic guitar and vocal. What I’ve came across is the M-Audio Refurbished MobilePre USB. From what I can gather this device will connect to my computer through a USB connection and I guess it will record to my hard drive where I can then do as I pleas with the recorded file.

From what I’m reading all I will need with the M-Audio MobilePre USB Interface with Microphone Preamp is a couple of mics and recording software and I’m ready to start my home recording career.

I’m not trying to get professional sound. Right now I’m using a small computer mic and Audacity and MultitrackStudio Lite and I find the sound to be fair but I’d like to move to something a little cleaner.

My question is am I missing something that will cost me after I buy the unit to make it work?

Some USB interfaces can be a bit finicky. I think that one is pretty straight as far as installing and getting it working. As for the software what you are using now is pretty good for getting it done. I know a few here that use them and get good results. pjk will probably jump in and promote Reaper, so I'll do it before he gets here. Do a search in out search area and you'll find lots of thread with info on Reaper. It is shareware but functions fully as the demo. Then it is pretty cheap to buy the license if you so desire.
