Compatability????

I hope im posting this in the right forum...So im looking to start diving into a mix in the next few days or so. The sessions that I have are all on a external hard drive. They were recorded in a professional recording studio. I have a few compatabilty questions I hope some of you might be able to help me out with. Trying to save some money on the mix by doing it on my DAW. The sessions were recorded in ProTools HD3. Currently I am working on a MAC G4 1.25 GHz version 10.3.9 (panther)with 768 MB DDR SDRAM. My version of ProTools is Digi 002 LE 6.4 with the control surface. I know that I am in need of upgrades. Is it as easy as upgrading the tools to LE 7.4 and then upgrading my OS to Tiger or Leopard. Though I hear ProTools doesnt support Leopard yet. Or is this even possible cause it was recorded in HD3. Any help is much appreciated, was an engineer for years and trying to get back in the game and get my chops back to par, compatabilty always thru me for a loop. If it is that easy does anyone know how much these upgrades might set me back Thanks

I'm not sure of the compatibility between an HD system and the LE systems. I am certain though that some of the automation or anything of that nature that was set on the HD system might not transfer to the LE system. That is one of the hooks that Digi sinks many users with to invest in the bigger system.

I could be wrong however and the transfer might not be a big deal at all.

One thing you can do is simply check on the availability for you to upgrade your LE system to the current version and start there. Then simply look at the file extension and if they match you should be golden.

I know Sonar is always backwards compatible and the newer version will always open the older version files. But I don't think you can open a light version file say of Sonar Home Studio with the full on Sonar 7 PE so I would assume that the LE version might not be able to open the HD system file.

But it might be a good idea to contact Digidesign and check with them. That or a local music shop that deals in PT might have the answer as well.

I've never had a problem opening HD files in LE for editing. Obviously, things like inputs/outputs willl change to m-box format, but apart from that its all geezy. I think I was running LE 7 on Tiger.

However, I'm not so sure that 6.4 will open HD 7 + files. Might be a good idea to upgrade PT.
