Hi guys,
Last night I bought a Echo MIA soundcard and tried to install it into my emachines computer. After I tried to install the drivers a million times, I decided to read the whole manual and it said that a Pentium or Intel chip was required.
Does anybody know if E-machines comes with either of those?
Every time I tried to install the drivers, heres what would happen.
It would go through the complete process and then at the end, a message would come up and say the that the software was not available to finish the task.
Help, please!!
Thanks,
Mitch

Jun 15, 2002 05:52 pm What model emachine do you have? It might say on their web site, but I would highly doubt that an eMachine uses an Intel chipset. We have mentioned here a million times that no one should buy an Echo Card without making sure they have Intel, not just CPU, but chipset as well.

Jun 15, 2002 10:40 pm Ok, I had a friend over and we got it installed. The Emachine does have an Intel chip, by the way.
I emailed tech support at Emachines and a guy told me how to disable the sound card that came with the computer.
Now if this cheap little computer will hold up, maybe I can get some recording done...
Thanks,
Mitch
Jun 16, 2002 05:32 am Well they all have Intel chips (common slang for CPU) but does it have an Intel chipset (A whole different thing) Some of those economy PC's don't even allow you to disable the onboard parts (unless you want to re-write the BIOS Flash yourself...NOT RECOMMENDED), you're lucky...

Jun 17, 2002 12:21 am I will say a prayer for you Mitch, I know several people who have disposed of their E-Machine's. They were built for web surfing, not heavy use by the like's of a musician.

Jun 17, 2002 07:30 pm Thanks, Noize. Prayers are appreciated on this end.
Just so everyone knows, my use of E-machines isn`t by choice. I don`t have money burning a big ol` hole in my pocket right now so I gotta go with what I got, ya know?
Anyways, thanks for the advice and stuff.

Jun 17, 2002 08:14 pm Oh, we all understand that...something Noize and I try to do is to get people to do as much as they can with what they have...we CAN get your PC to work, it just may take some time and patience...we do need to know about the chipset for sure though, not the chip, the chipset...make and model...

Jun 17, 2002 11:19 pm Hey Mitch, dB will tell ya this is true. I started my PC recording carere with a Packard Hell locked to a bunch of external Hardware sequancer's and drum machine's. And it also locked to a 4 track just for safety's sake, as I didn't trust the PC at first.
Now the only tape I own is for 2 track mix down's.
