Micing Drums: count the mics

I love this video. Actually most of the videos with Portnoy on youtube. See if you can count the number of mics.

Pretty tough to count the mics as many are hidden and clipped via the cage but I can't imagine he mic'd every single piece of that kit. What a nightmare that would be. Check the overheads.

Yep, he is right now the best drummer on the planet. Not taking anything away from the likes of Joey Jordason though as he is of the same skill level I suppose. But Portnoy just gets it everytime.

And yes,m every drum is micced. The drum mix is completely separate during live shows.

Simply fantastic.
