So I'm finishing up my album right now and looking at updateing my studio. Right now I have a Mac G4 "old school" hehe, running Digital Performer. Which I like my stuff what I looking at doing is just getting new stuff. So I'm between getting a Mac G5, or the new Mac Pro. But I have also thought about a Mac laptop so I can be on the move. Does anybody know if I do the laptop thing, if I would be able to use my software, Digital Performer. to edit, mix and such if I'm at a coffee shop or something and the computer is not pluged into the firewire or anything. Any thoughts ideas would be great. Thanks From a new member.

Apr 19, 2008 10:45 am Not that I've used mac or DP, but you should be able to.
I would think that you just tell DP that you're using whatever built-in soundcard, and edit/mix away.
You'll have to use the onboard sound anyways, to hear what you're doing.
Oop, I just thought of something: if you record using the firewire device, at, say 24bit/96khz, then your onboard sound better support the same sample rate / bit depth.
So find the highest sample rate / bit depth your onboard supports, and don't record with the FW device any higher than that.
It should work that way. Just switch DP preferences from the FW to onboard sound.
eh, maybe that's a solution for you, maybe not =).
