so when i record something the actual amount of dB i can get without peaking is not very loud. why is this? is there any kind of program where i can just put my final mix into to make it louder without peaking? perhaps a free one?

Apr 18, 2008 02:25 pm yes, is called a limiter which is basically a compressor with an insane ratio.
You basically get your mix as lioud as possible, mix it down and then apply the limiter to the stereo mixdown. My $0.02, don't overdo it, apply enough so it is working but not making an overcompressed mess.
Apr 18, 2008 03:09 pm Waves makes one called the "UltraMaximier" that works great

Apr 18, 2008 03:39 pm Hey DB, do you know the diff between the L1, the L1+ Ultramaximizer and the L2?
Apr 18, 2008 03:44 pm Specifically, no I don't recall, I just remember a different interface across them, like some additional controls in the L2, can't recall what they are (haven't been making music lately)...
