Sending a Song over the Internet

I have a friend that has an old Fostex M80 reel to reel and he wants to record part of a song and then send it too me to finish over the internet...Is this possible..or are we dreaming? I have a fostex 280 cassette...Could he use " Real Player to record the song onto his computer and then use Yahoo messenger File transfer to send it to me.Was wondering if anybody has tryed this..Thanks for any help.. Also if anybody here knows anything about the Fostex M80, or has a manual for it, my friend really needs help uderstanding how to bounce tracks on it etc.. Thanks

It's certainly possible to do that, but you'd get best results if you used a pro recording soundcard and recorded it onto the computer using a good recording program. When you send it over the internet just make sure it's still in .wav format for best quality. I've done that with AIM, and I assume it's possible with Yahoo. you'll just have to wait a few hours for it to transfer to your friend :-) (Depending on your connection speed)

If you don't have a pro sound card you can still plug it into the line in on a cheap sound card and see how it sounds. I wouldn't really recommend it though.
