I just got FL Studios and I have no clue at all how to use it. I put a couple of beats together using that channel thing that is there in the beginning. After that I have no clue how to start to put a song together and export it as an mp3. Can someone walk me through the basics please?

Best thing to do, since you're asking for help with specific software, is to look for tutorials.

Here's a few I googled that should get you well acquainted with FL Studio:

The one below is awesome- it's interactive.

Looked through the NG one, that's pretty sweet. Took me a few weeks to figure out that stuff =)

Since getting FL6, I've done a lot more of placing small parts of beats on their own pattern, like just a kick on pattern 5, and just a snare on pattern 8. I make up a handful of different kick patterns (and different snare patterns, etc), and turn on the one I want in the playlist when I want it.

Really lets me be more flexible in quick-drafting a full song.

Once a background beat is made, I then start building my melody instruments with piano roll, controlling synths, or soundfonts, or samples, etc.

I admit though, that there's still a ton in FL that I don't know what it does. the synth section baffles me, and the mixer still gives me fits sometimes. I putz around till something sounds good, then I go from there =).
