I was reading from the tascam site about Partitioning my drive and changing the cluster sizes when fat 32 my drive...something about grabing more info at one read of a section.
Will this help my computer using two ultra ata 100 hard drives?
Is Partion Magic worth the $69.00 on a my recording only computer?
Anyone using this program?
Thanks

Feb 16, 2003 11:52 pm I never partition my audio drive's. I do however defrag them very often. This keep's all the file's for project's in tight order so the drive is not searching constantly for the info it needs. I am not sure, but I think most here do not partition their audio drive's.
Feb 17, 2003 10:09 am Artical is on page 24 of tascams the word of pc recording. Under window clusters, changing your standard FAT 32 partitions from 4K to 32K chuncks with out losing data already on the drives.
"Compare this adjustment to filling and emptying a 3 gallon bucket 1 once at a time instead of 12 onces at a time"
I am not having a hard drive problem yet being 2 ultra ata HD...but if it could run better I am into that!!!
Thanks Again DB you guys are the stuff!!!

Feb 17, 2003 10:23 am Yes, drives on FAT 32 can gain usable space as well as some access speeds with proper partitioning. However, FAT also has serious downsides, those being security and stability when compared to NTFS.
Rather than partitioning your FAT you may want to think about upgrading to Windows 2000 or XP and go with the NTFS file system. Much faster, more stable more secure, and really, FAT is going to be going away anyway...
Just a thought.
Feb 17, 2003 11:10 am I JUST PURCHASED XP PRO WILL THIS CHANGE TO THE NEW FORMAT NOW?
Feb 17, 2003 11:20 am wow, that was a fast decision.
Back up your music first, changing format to NTFS will remove your music...copy it to CD or a different harddrive, format the drive, then copy it back...
Feb 17, 2003 11:31 am I PURCHASED IT (XP PRO) LAST WEEK WHEN I ASKED THE QUESTION OF HOW TO SET UP MY COMPUTER AND YOU TOLD ME 98SE WAS TO OLD TO USE....NOT KNOWING THEY CHANGED THE FORMAT OF XP, I DON'T NEED PARTION MAGIC....AGAIN THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP SAVED ME $69.00
Feb 17, 2003 11:54 am Cool, glad we could help...
oh, and press your "caplock" key to unlock the caps, please.
98SE isn't too old, it's still a pretty common OS to see, but then I know peeps still using Windows 95...yikes. But, for multimedia work NTFS is surely the way to go.
