core duo versus core 2 duo for laptop recording?

I was messing about with my system (an oldish portable compaq + an Alesis Mutlimix) and have now decided to buy a new computer. The one thing I'm wondering about is whether or not a core 2 duo processor would make a crucial difference to the core duo one? Thanks for all views!
Cheers!

Here's an anandtech article pitting both processors (2.33Ghz version) against each other. On encoding it was 11-21% faster, to me that is quite a difference and really the one that matters to me.

It seems on most other tasks they are comparable if not even, but 20 seconds saved per mixdown would be worth it to me :) If the price difference is small enough I would go C2D, I would not pay $100's of dollars over the standard Duo though.
