This is really getting old. Our country is turning into a Mad Max movie

TRENTON, N.J. — A developing plot to stage a "military-style
assault" at a high school near the end of the school year has been
foiled, authorities said.
One person has been charged in the ongoing investigation, which
began this week after officials at Belvidere High School heard
allegations that a 17-year-old senior male student was developing a
hit list of students and teachers, State Police spokesman Capt. Al
Della Fave said Wednesday night.
School officials notified Belvidere police, who soon got state police,
the FBI and the region's Joint Terrorism Task Force involved.
State police detectives Michael Lamonaco and Kenneth Koenig,
working with officials from the other agencies, then began a more
extensive investigation and spoke with nine of the student's
acquaintances, described by Della Fave as five juveniles and four
adult males, all of whom live in Belvidere or nearby White
Township. Della Fave would not say whether any of them were also
students.
"Investigators learned that the military-style plot was being
developed, and that (those involved) had begun doing surveillance
work at the school and were working to identify possible escape
routes," Della Fave said.
Authorities notified the 17-year-old student's father, who voluntarily
surrendered some guns in his house to authorities. Della Fave said
that all the weapons were legally registered and that the father has
been assisting investigators.
The student, whose name was not disclosed, has been hospitalized for a mental health evaluation, Della Fave said. He
has not yet been charged.
James M. Shipps, 22, of Belvidere, was charged with creating a false public alarm, making terroristic threats and
hindering apprehension, Della Fave said. He was being held in the county jail on $50,000 bail. It was not immediately
clear whether he had a lawyer.
Della Fave credited teamwork of local, state and federal officials with foiling what he said could have been "a truly
horrible" incident.
"This is an example of the partnerships we need to have, and why it's important for people to report suspicious activity,"
he said.

On the plus side this suggests that fellow students are taking their security seriously.

Here's a quote from my 'security manager' in 1999.. "It was probably just kids, I wouldn't worry about it." - that statement can apply to a lot of situations, however, being followed by a 'mystery car' with completely tinted windows onto an ungated military facility which then blocks access to the buildings door... and then speeds off when I go to pull out of the parking lot...generally falls into something to worry about... at least in books...

so it makes me feel happy to see people realizing that 'maybe this person is crazy enough to do it' and then doing something to stop it.

...and I don't see then connection with mad max...at least not without cars with spikes on the hoods or rims... :)

Yah Zek, probably "Just kids". All kids are homicidal sociopaths; the'll grow out of it. In my old age I must have forgotton doing the same thing.

I liked the movies too. Guess it's time to get ready for work. Let's see where's my spikes for the car, I know I took them off to polish them.

High school was a little different for me.

An 'assulat' was little more than handbags at ten yards at recess.

A 9mm was a very unfortunate bloke.

The only metel detectors we had were blokes who knew you were playing Iron maiden.

Simpler times.

Yep, in high school, once in a while - not very often - we'd see a punk waving a knife or nunchucks around, but never saw them used against anyone; it was all moronic posturing. Nunchucks were popular for about a year as I recall. Then the idiots finally realized that they didn't look so cool doubled up on the ground after accidentally cracking themselves in the nuts.

Yessir, good times.

It's spiraling faster and faster also. In 92 we met outside and punched each other in the face up here in the AK, now it's all crazy with shootings and the like and just makes no sense to me.

These pent-up frustrations used to be released during a rousing game of dodge-ball in P.E. But with the ban of dodge-ball, these frustrations build up and manifest themselves as violent outbreaks. Just another side-effect of the pussification of American children by over-protective adults.

Pussification indeed. Instead of a few punches and a sore ego they would rather shoot someone or make sure they have 12 friends to kick them in the head while down.

NO HONOR!!!

I dunno, I agree with the pussification part, but the cause I think is more lawsuit happy parents that sue schools every time their kids scrapes a knee and a medical community that gives ADHD drugs to every boy that dare shows one little hint of testosterone or masculine tendencies.

My friend, his daughter was told at school by a teacher to just "let them hit you" if they get in a fight. It's the right thing to do and they will eventually get tired....

Nope, just our semi-regular "society is going to hell in a handcart" thread.

It's crazy how so few individuals can have such a profound impact on how we view our community/society. 0.00000001% of total people are irrational and cause trouble, but they have such a huge impact on our outlook.

I would suggest it's vastly higher than 0.00000001%

That said, I do agree with your point, just not your statistic, though I would like to know the percentage of people that are clinically sociopathic.

Well 51% of the population are women and statistically speaking 1/4 of them are menstral at any given time so we can start with that number...

Oh man that might get me killed :D

I live close to Trenton. So I have been hearing about it on the news quite a bit. There is a follow up on this story. There were two students that turned the kids in. These two students were praised as hero's. Bush even came to visit and praise them.

Here's the kicker. After the prosecution of the one's preparing the assault. The two idiots that turned them in, decided that, Hey, they are going away for a long time. Shame to just let their video games go to waste. Let's break in to their house and steal them!

I hope the morons are in the same jail cell as the others.

Well if the world does go Mad Max I'll simply build me a vigilante mobile like the AMX with the 671 GMC blower on it that Max had and gather me up some weapons of mass Destruction and some fuel and head out on the road with the boyz. I'd probly still look alright done up in some leather get up. And the boyz can go back to their mohawks, I guess Ray still has his though and we'll just look real nasty and drive around looking for fuel.

OK, just kidding. I don't even really want to touch this one as it is just a stupid mess brought on by what Tadpui said, pussification of America. Nuf said.

Yah Noize, I'm finding myself moving toward Tadpui's perspective as well. It's hard for me to accept what people here just expect be handed them, and the litergy of things the 'won't do'. I have no idea how all that is suposed to work.
