Little looping query

Is it possible to make a roll sound convincing using an array of single drum hits?

Basically, I'm working on a interlude bit and I want to make a loop with a double time hi hat roll that I will gradually add some bass and snare to. Any ideas? or am I better off looking for a rolling hi hat sequence to start with and looping that?

change the velocity from hit to hit so it doesn't sound like a machine gun and it's sounds better...even mixing it across a couple of slightly different hat samples can help too...anything to mix it up to sound b ti more human

Cheers, I'll spend some time with that when I get a chance and try and come up with a good'un. I've found another loop which serves my purpose for now though and has actually given me a few new ideas for the song.

Ya, doing it with audio hits is kind of tough. It can be done but is not easy and take a lot of work. It is much easier to do it with midi.

Ah, I know bugger all about MIDI. I'll just have to take my time over it.
