I've heard this term latency mentioned quite a few times since I joined the forum and its normally supposed to be a bad thing, right? Can someone explain to me what it actually is?
The only latency I know of related to changes of state in phyical chemistry.

Mar 03, 2008 11:57 am It's the amount of time audio takes to get from your sound card inputs, thru your PC and back thru the outputs.
Cheaper cards are pretty bad, midrange and higher end cards are pretty good...most good drivers and application account for such delay.

Mar 03, 2008 12:06 pm Basically the delay from me strumming it coming into my headphones, in which time it must go though the USB cable and into GearBox and back out the USB cable to my headphones. I'm assuming the Sound Card in the toneport is actually designed for this though so it shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks. Its come up on a few forums I've been frequenting since I started upgrading my gear. This one is by far the most helpful and freindly so far though - even if the admin are a touch facist..... ;0)
Both the REAPER and Line6 forums get a bit too technical too quickly for me as they seem to assume a certain amount of knowledge, which I dont have, they'll probably become more useful as I get better at using the gear
