cubase doing my head in! no vocal sound!

ive recorded a drum track with the drag and drop ez drummer programme, then i recorded a midi track with piano, then i go to record an audio track...plud my mic into the mic socket on my soundcard,its coming out of the monitors but cubase isnt recording it!
i recorded vocals the other day just fine! any ideas?
i just need to maon about cubase and how over complicated it is!!!!
moan over! any ideas?
