As soon as the music shop opens up this morning, I'm heading down there to pickup my new DAW. A Roland VS-2400CD. This is a very similar unit to the one we are using in class except it only has 8 channels built in and is expandable to 16. I will be using this unit to record bands live shows.

Feb 25, 2008 11:31 am Very nice!! :) I would also like a 16 channel rig, mnow I can't afford one though. Would be so awesome for doing live gigs though.

Yes, I wanted something rock solid and I have a lot of trust with this unit. I already have a couple recording gigs lined up and I didn't want to mess with the laptop route. I don't have a lot of faith using a laptop or desktop to record live gigs. Especially if I am running the PA with it.

Feb 25, 2008 12:22 pm Hell yeah ! Nice live-tracker, there . I had thought about getting one of those before I went compy-based . Quite a bit easier to cart around for sure, but I managed to keep things mobile with a rack-mountable case for the compy/compressor/power-conditioner, mixer, and screen being the only pieces to hall .
Nice-one, keeping things relative to your school equipment !

Ya, I'm kinda looking at this as having the right pencil case/books for the course IYKWIM.

Feb 25, 2008 12:35 pm Actually, I can connect this unit to the 2480 that we are using in class to create 24 track simultaneous recording.
I also want to learn more about V-Link. Anyone know anything about using V-Link for live shows?

If I did any kind of recording work, I'd probably be jealous hehe. Nice bit of kit there. :)

Feb 27, 2008 02:23 pm Hey all, picked up a rack/stand to go with it. Now I finally have a small portable self contained DAW. Next step is to interface it with my PC that is running 12 channels into Sonar. With a bit of thought, I will be able to record 16 channels simultaneously. Sweet! I'm lovin' it.
