We are looking for a way to record our practices so that we can preserve any cool riffs or melodies that we come up with and more importantly practice them at home. Doesn't have to be high quality at all it is really just to have a playback option.
Any suggestions?
Equipment/software etc

Feb 20, 2008 10:03 am why not just a portable radio, or small four track tape recorder with a couple mics spread around the room? A little Tascam Portastudio would likely work great...

Feb 20, 2008 10:20 am MiniDisk would work great too. There's stereo mics, that would work well.

Feb 20, 2008 11:14 am I've been in this situation for awhile now. We tried using a small personal recorder but quickly got tired of the crappy overdriven sound. I bet you will too even though it is just for reference. I would say that you will want to use a proper microphone that can handle the SPL's of the practice.

That's the cheap, sort of efficient way.
Mar 02, 2008 08:21 pm Several years ago I remember getting some pretty good recordings on a Tascam 464. I used it for the same purpose for the most part , they do a good job and can be found for very little now.

Back when my band would record a practice session all we would be is hang a multi directional mic from the rafters and have it plugged into a tape deck(any one from 1984 on will do) we just bought a $25 Mic with a 1/4" jack on the end.
