I always hear about people finding plug ins like auto tune and waves online for free. How is this possible? I was also told since I used a mac its harder to do or something i really dont know anything about this or if people were just lying. If anyone can shed some light on the topic that would be great.
Thanks

er, that would be pirating, and frowned upon by most of society, and strongly frowned upon here. Those two programs are not free, and have a cost attached to them.

That's pretty vague.
Macs are not inherently 'harder' or something, but there are less free solutions for Mac. If you're looking to get into home recording on the cheap, then PC may be an easier alternative. There's lots of free solutions out there for PC, and very few for MAC.
Feb 20, 2008 06:41 am There IS a lot of great software available online for free, legally, commonly referred to as "freeware".
Antares and Waves are not among the freeware makers, however. They are expensiveware.

Love it.
I doubt that you'll find any kind of Autotune as freeware. If you do, let me know. And I don't mean a crack!!!!
For a cool free suite try the Modern series from Antress. I love 'em.

Feb 20, 2008 02:58 pm I've heard that GSnap does a auto-tune kind of thing.
Reaper has ReaTune, which some have used for auto-tuning. I put it on a fretless bass track, and it brought what I thought was close, closer =).
It has a auto-tune feature. I haven't used it a lot, just on that bass track.

Feb 20, 2008 04:07 pm Coool. I'll take a look. Can ReaTune be used as a VST?

Feb 20, 2008 04:21 pm Audition has autotune\pitch correction, but it must be applied in edit mode. I would rather have something I can hear on the fly.

Feb 20, 2008 04:40 pm Reatune isn't one of the VST plugs Justin has made available. So ReaTune will work only in Reaper.
www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/ <- some of the reaper plugs, in universal VST format for any host.

www.kvraudio.com
Pirating is a major cause for some of the software being the price it is.
Check out KVR as stated and you will find many pluggins that can compete with Waves on a pretty good level.
