Feb 15, 2008 02:49 pm Interesting question. Honestly I had no idea what a PZM was. For the curious:
www.crownaudio.com/pdf/mics/136367.pdf
Its short for Pressure Zone Microphone, a proprietary technology of Crown Audio Inc. In that document it does mention that they're good for ambience micing, on the floor or walls.

Feb 15, 2008 03:05 pm PZM's are awesome ambient drum mics (depending on the quality of course). They also work good for conferences and such where you just put a PZM on top of the boardroom table etc.

Feb 15, 2008 06:05 pm I actually made some cool recordings in the 80's where a PZM was attached to a board on the wall and used for vocals. It came out surprisingly well. For ambient sounds they are very cool.

Feb 15, 2008 06:22 pm A buddy of mine whom I actually got the PZM from, attached it to a piece of acrylic and placed it in front of the kick drum and said he got awesome results. I haven't tried that though.
