Interesting question. Honestly I had no idea what a PZM was. For the curious:

Its short for Pressure Zone Microphone, a proprietary technology of Crown Audio Inc. In that document it does mention that they're good for ambience micing, on the floor or walls.

PZM's are awesome ambient drum mics (depending on the quality of course). They also work good for conferences and such where you just put a PZM on top of the boardroom table etc.

I actually made some cool recordings in the 80's where a PZM was attached to a board on the wall and used for vocals. It came out surprisingly well. For ambient sounds they are very cool.

A buddy of mine whom I actually got the PZM from, attached it to a piece of acrylic and placed it in front of the kick drum and said he got awesome results. I haven't tried that though.
