Using Cool Edit with Windows Vista

I know I've kind of done this to death but in an effort to solve my odd little problem I was wondering if anyone else is using Cool Edit with Vista? If so have you managed to get it to default to record in mono. At the moment when I start a new session I only get the option to select the sample rate and 32 bit mixing not mono/stereo. I can however go to the wave editor and convert a stero wave with one side empty into a mono track. Its just an extra time consuming step I could do without.
