Your local music shop in the US

Hi all, I've been on holiday.

I've still not got Cool Edit to record in mono using windows Vista but more about that later.

I've been pricing up UX2's in the UK and they are £149, i.e. nearly $300.

I've seen them advertised on US sites for $200, does anyone have a local, preferably independant music shop that sells a UX2 for about $200? I need to be able to contact them direct to see if I can pay them for it but then get them to send it to me as a gift, i.e. wrapped with something like "Happy Birthday James" written on it. Imports from the states are subject to 30% import tax which would make it pointless importing it.

Thanks,

James

local alaska shop that is independently owned. The UX2 is indeed $200 there. Worth a shot I guess. Ooooh, even a toll free number.

Cheers, I'll give them a ring and see if they'll help me. Import tax is a real pain in the arse. Everything is so cheep in the States at the moment.

The 800 number doesn't work international but I left them a message to call me back. Hopefully they will. Actually, how far behind are you guys in Alaska? They might not even be out of bed yet!

EDIT. I've just checked its about 5AM in alaska! I probably shouldn't expect much sense out of them for at least 5 hours which is nice as my phone call will be off-peak by then

If you trust me enough to send me the money upfront and cover shipping and paypal fees then I'll get one and send it for you. It would be around $200 (assuming I buy online and don't pay tax) + shipping + $5 or so for Paypal. Probably around $240, you decide if it's worth it (I'm not sure it is really)

BTW: The Toneport box is way bigger than the product inside so consider that when shipping. I could also open it and make sure it works if that helps.

There's also the option of buying from Amazon and having it shipped directly to you.

This is a genuine offer. email me at [email protected] if interested.

Cheers for the offer. But as you say with the price racking up its more likely I'll end up going down my local shop and just buying it for £150 when I get chance.

If reaper turns out to be as useful as I'm hoping then it shouldn't be too bad as I wont be buying any software.

I could buy it from Amazon (do they really sell them on Amazon!) and tick the gift box to try and avoid the import tax. If they twig that both the invoice address and the delivery address are in the UK and stick 30% on it, I still wont be worse off than just buying it from a UK shop.

I saw the UX2 in a shop the other day and I was suprised by how big it was. I suppose tramps could live in the box could they?

I tried to setup a shipping to the UK (I'm a Brit) but it wouldn't allow it so that won't work.

I do think that in the end the risk etc. is not worth the small amount of money saved. If you buy it local you can return it etc.

Reaper is great, on my next video show, at www.homemadehitshow.com a friend made some Reaper overview videos (I just need to get around do putting that video show together.

But you will pay the license fee if you end up keeping it, right?

Of course, its nice that its not an outright payment and its not a lot of cash anyway so I should be able to get that whenever.

Found a music shop in Birmingham selling the UX2 on eBay for £118 which isn't too bad really, not that much more than the US. Provided it all arrives smoothly and works I'll post up details of the seller for any UK HRC members who may be wanting a toneport. I'll post my first impressions of it in one of the other threads.

Cheers all,

James.
